That was a sad day. I was in Lancaster and my friends and I had many a drink in his honor and watched Life of Brian on TV that night.
I still have a half-dozen newspapers with his obituary in them. He was my favorite Beatle and, IMHO, the best.

My favorite Beatle too. My mum and a friend of hers actually went to his house one day in the early 60's - early days in the groups life and he was still living at home with his Mum. Unfortunately George wasn't there, but she and her friend drank several cups of tea with his Mum, who was apparently just as cool as he was!
'Taxman' is probably my fave George song. |

Yeah, he was always my favourite too. There was something (no pun intended) decidedly calm and everymanish about him, which gave him the appearance of being approachable and down to earth. Whereas, I always thought that Lennon (sometimes) came across as being too c0cksure of himself and very arrogant, while McCartney was always too bigheaded for his own good, but with George, he always came across the same. I suppose in some respects, his easy-going neutrallity probably gave the Lennon/McCartney partnership a steadying sense of equilibrium.
He was an oustanding songwriter in his own write as well. Can't believe it's been six years since he died. |

Well, he wasn't my favorite Beatle, but my respect for him as a human being and a musician has grown a lot in recent years. He was into a lot of unorthodox spirituality but when you watch him talk in interviews he still comes across as very grounded and realistic. |

I was doing a lesson on music this week and showing my students the Beatles 'Help'. It's amazing how many of the students don't know that only one of them is still alive. |

Who died recently? Ringo or Paul? Did I completely miss that one?

No Ringo and Paul are still around.
I think he meant there is only one left of the original Beatles as Ringo joined them later. |

Well then, as far as I know, Pete Best (considered to be an original Beatle) is still alive too. So either way you look at it, there are still at least 2 alive. |
