Looks like a copycat case of Nork-ism developing here. Maybe the US will ultimately have to give aid in exchange for dismantling their plant?
I don't see how America will be able to stop the global proliferation of nukes in the decades ahead, short of strikes on Iran and every undesirable country with a nuclear weapons capability programme. Israel would certainly play its part in the middle east region.
Aside from that..Horse has already bolted. Best we can hope for is a sort of new, worldwide cold war-type deterrent I think.
Iran vows never to stop pursuing atomic plans
Reuters - 46 minutes ago
LONDON (Reuters) - Iran pledged to pursue its disputed atomic programme, as Europe's top diplomat met Tehran's main nuclear negotiator on Friday in a last effort to avert tougher sanctions.
Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said late on Thursday nothing would deflect the Islamic Republic from its pursuit of nuclear technology and it was not committed to allowing inspection of nuclear sites.
"The Iranian nation will never return from the path that they have chosen and they are determined and decisive to continue this path (to obtain nuclear technology)," Mottaki was quoted as saying by the official IRNA news agency.
"America is angry with Iran over its nuclear programme but they know that the cost of attacking Iran will be very high," he told a gathering of the Basij religious militia. "America has lost in its nuclear challenge with Iran."

Only two options will ultimately be left, given Iran's intransigence and arrogance: Israeli fighter bombers OR American fighter bombers. Take your pick. |

The fact is, you can't stop technological progress while promoting globalization. But you can cut Iran off from the global community. Joo's solution is all the more graceful because it proposes to do that: cut Iran out of the economic pie.
Iran is like a pitiful Soviet Union. Its political leaders are unpopular, its military technology is just good enough to be threatening without enough quality to be a threat, but unlike the Soviet Union, they do not have many WMD, yet. Also like the Soviet Union, Iran is an Empire controlled by a plurality (49% Persian) suppressing minorities.
Iran as it stands today will not last another 20 years. We need to be patient but resolute. Cut if off. |
