Kind of a dumb question, I know. But recently, I have been thinking a lot about this.

I have had both bad and good bosses. I find that I like the ones who take the time to talk to you. You know where you stand with them and if there is a problem they tell you.

I really hate a wotk environment where you don't know where you stand. Where there seems to be an air of secrecy and there are tons of conspiracy theories being spoken of.

Also, in Korea, I find that you are often treated like a child rather than an adult and professional. This seems to be the way Korean bosses relate to their foreign staff. I do not really like the Korean management style. I should probably read up on it

I work in a public middle school and don't seem to have a boss, or even really know who he/she would be.

I have total autonomy in the classroom. I have a co-teacher/handler who speaks fluent English and who tells me things - like schedules (when she finds out), but has never told me what to do. My six other co-teachers simply stand at the back of the room and observe. They're learning as much from me as the students; come to think of it, probably more (they're motivated).

I never see the principal, and the VP has never said a word to me except to communicate that he wants to take me out drinking.

I suppose the school district 'inspector' is my boss... he's the one who 'OKed' my holiday request, and who can sign for the credit card when we go 'shopping' (new furnishings for my aparta). Very Happy

I believe a great deal of my good fortune has to do with the facts: I'm 'older', male, and had a couple of years of experience in Korea before this job.

If you have a boss there is a good chance that you are a chump that spends time making someone else rich. Agree?

I like bosses that are 35 yo foxes, have great hair and fashion sense, have MA degrees in art from unis in San Francisco, pay on time, give bonuses, give latitude in class material selection, buy materials that I ask for, make an excellent effort to have the teachers not be at school when they don't need to be and take the employees out for dinner at Paju's artist colony.

No - I'm not. That would ruin everything. I know a good thing when I have it so I have to maintain the balance. I freely admit to going by her desk two dozen times a day for inspiration however. She's married to her business, she doesn't talk about boyfriends. My lovelife is busy (enough) without her so I'm taken care of. Sometimes it best to just not touch things.

I'm not happy with life in the west and alot of that has to do with work. Like work as in job interviews like when they ask me "Who was your favorite boss and why?" I'll answer them honestly but they won't accept it. F them.

CM, you missed another explanation, I may in fact not be doing her because
she doesn't want me to. I need subs on occasion, so you are on the short list.

From a good boss (in Korea), I expect him to:

- pay me on time and in full
- leave me the hell alone to do my job without being micro-managed
- back me up when it comes to discipline
- talk to me like a human being instead of barking orders at me

Be a good little employee and always remember to thank your boss for adjusting your chains.
