The Bush administration has set a goal of admitting 12,000 Iraqi refugees in the current budget year that ends next October.

Quote:
Thousands of Iraqis whose support for the U.S. war effort in Iraq has put them and their families in grave danger at home are being excluded from a new fast-track system aimed at speeding up refugee resettlement in the United States for American allies, officials said Thursday.

Can you take me down to, Iraqi-Town! Can you take me down to, Iraqi-Town! I'm gonna guess Detroit, Chicago, Houston, New York, and Los Angeles will be the first to develop some decent Iraqi-towns in the next ten years or so.

I expect a lot more refugees since the current Bush Plan of never ever leaving is in effect. The tough thing is that once you send informants over to the U.S. to live forever, where do you get your new informants?

our treatment of Iraqi refugees has been a disgrace, especially compared to our behavior towards south vietnamese during and right after the vietnamese war. This is one step in the right direction.

There is already a large segment of Iraqis in Dearborn. I'm sure that's where most of the 12,000 will end up.

Bring all who want to come (and check clearance) here. There's plenty of room in the US.

Anyone who has put their life on the line deserves a serious examination, and if the US can make such mistakes in Iraq, we can also afford to bring a few mistakes home.

Absolutely! And this is the best news I've heard yet since the Iraq war got started.

I've been saying all along that these refugees should be let into not only the US but also Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia etc. As it stands, most of them have been going to Jordan and Jordan is strapped. These refugees have little in the way of housing (basically a tin can or tent) and what food or water the government is willing to ration out. It's sad, especially since they've helped Americans in so many ways. Bush is doing the right thing! I hope it all works out. About 9,000 Iraqi refugess have made their homes in Sweden since the war began. Why Sweden? Why not the US? Iraqi Americans make some of the best Americans we've got. They absolutely love America and they work very hard in their legitimate businesses. I can't think of any single group of people I'd rather have in American than the Iraqis who'v risked all to help out the American side.

There's no shortage of paid informants in Iraq. Money is so tight that people will do what they need to in order to survive. Also, many of them were mistreated under the Saddam Bath party regime and they have a serious ax to grind. They'll be oh so happy to participate. The trouble is the insurgents who get wind of these people and then their lives are in danger as well as their whole family. Many of them haven't received adaquate protection from the US once they've participated. So many Iraqis have no choice but to flee across the boarders as refugees.
