Does anyone know how long it takes to get your passport back after renewing the E2 visa? |

Are you staying with the same job or changing to a new employer?
Same job-I extended my visa with my school about 5 months ago at the Busan immi office. They kept it for two weeks, the same way they do when yo ufirst apply for your ARC. Seems totally dumb, but that's what they did.
New employer-- I hope this isn't the case for you as there's no telling how long al lhte new visa restrictisn will take. |

| I've renewed my E2 numerous times & they've never held my passport back. Depends on your office I guess. |

| If you renew your visa Immigration will hold your passport for one week. After a week you will receive your passport back with a renewal stamp in it. Why they have to hold it for a week is beyond me. |

Absolutly nothing unless you want to get a multi-re-entry permit at the same time.
Your extension is just a matter of filing some paperwork, updating your computer file and making a notation on the back of your ARC.
I have done it many times and have never had my passport or ARC held for more than about 30 minutes.
To the poster who had their passport held for a week, was it a simple extension of period of sojourn with the same employer? That is what usually happens when you register after a new visa and get your NEW ARC. |

What's the longest you can extend a visa for? For example, I might be staying with the same school. To avoid all the hassle the paper work to get a new visa, could I just extend, extend, extend?
How many times can you do it?

1 year at a time. T
here are currently NO restrictions on the maximum duration of stay (number of successive extensions) or number of successive E2 visas for E2 teachers. |

I know the maximum time for an extension is one year, but what is the minimum? My university is trying to say it's illegal for them to give me a one month extension, but I don't believe that to be the case; however, I can't seem to locate the information on the immigration website. Can anyone point me to this info?

Minimum extension is 1 day.
I (personally) have had 2, 3, 4 and 6 month WORK extensions at different times.
It is a simple matter of taking the contract amendment (with new end date), guarantor form and business registration from your employer, your ARC, passport, application, and 30k won.
The process takes about 30 minutes at immigration.
If you just need an extension for personal reasons (NOT going to be working) you just need your exit ticket, ARC, passport and a trip to immigration. This is FREE and again takes about 30 minutes.
It can also be done on the G4F website ( http://www.g4f.go.kr )but some people have reported problems using the site so make sure you print off copies of everything to have a hard copy record if you use the web portal. |

| remember that its illegal for anyone to keep your passport... if they don't return it on request.. your embassy takes these sort of things very seriously. |
