We've been speculating for a month. I thought the new E2 rules were supposed to come out on December 1st.

That got delayed....

The consular interview has been dropped. That seeeeeems to be a firm decision, but this is Korea, after all...
Criminal records check will be needed...
Fill out medical questionnaire and sign...(have you ever been treated for alcoholism, any major contagious diseases last three years etc)
Some kind of medical exam IN Korea after you arrive...
More verification of credentials, possibly through apostilles...however, if you are already in Korea, they can be "certified" (my word, don't know what it would be in Korea) through a National documents certification program that takes about three weeks. Your employer will have this information in a email from Immigration, and it's also on the Immigration web site.

About the criminal records checks...

Do we need to have them finished by the time we renew/start a contract or can we have some kind of paper saying that they're being processed and be allowed to work on good faith?

This doesn't really concern me as I'm not renewing/resigning until June of '08, but it does concern some people I know. If someone is renewing in late December (and of course they won't have the 4 month long RCMP criminal records check by then), are they basically screwed?

Even though I would be coming with no drugs in my system or contagious diseases, it concerns me that anything the doctor says could be a condition to warrant dismissal. It could be anything such as being 20 kilos over weight or you might have a cold at the time and be determined to be a public health risk. I know that sounds silly, but you never know. Would they tell us the medical criteria for being qualified to teach in Korea before hand or would they make that up at the last minute when you are already in country?

This is mainly what I am concerned about at this point in coming back to Korea.

At this point/date everything is wild speculation. The Korean authorities do not even know what's happening or will be required. Even if laws are passed, individual embassy/consular and Immirgation officers will interperate them differently.

When someone starts a rumor on 'Daves' and others repeat it, suddenly it becomes a 'fact'. One thing is true - certain individuals will get 'screwed' by the upcoming changes to Korean immigration law, and others will 'walk' through.

I this a fact or something that turned out to be a fact after being mentioned alot on here.

1. interview with korean consulate ?
2. if so, does this have to be in your home contry?

3. what are the chances of arriving in korea first and finding a job. do i have to comeback to my home country to complete the immigration process?

FYI: i got my Criminal report within a week... they must work fast in australia. (like type my name into a computer and print out a report is all too time consuming!!!)
