I've lived in Korea a total of 7.5 years and I've never experienced a Korean not getting on an elevator because I was in it. That's a new one for me.

I stopped sitting in subway trains, everywhere, because the seats are just too small and I feel cramped. Also, I guess I'm also old fashioned and I never sit when a woman is standing, so usually I just find it more relaxed to stand the whole time if the train is crowded. Doesn't really matter where I am in the world.

In my opinion Koreans are becoming more relaxed with the idea of sharing public spaces with foreigners, and their general public behaviour has improved.
Ten years ago Korean men wouldn't worry about spitting into the corner of an elevator- a crowded elevator!
Sometimes when they're wasted they still come marching into public yelling and spitting, but at least they don't ask me if I have any money.

"yo you got any money?" "yo motherfkker" "I tawkin ta you"
Yeah, I really miss THAT.

It's NYC generic.
You'll find yourself on a pay phone with some 18 year-old kid behind you telling you to "get the fck off the phone", he is waiting for a call and you need to get your ass off the fcking phone. There can be 5 or 6 of them all "hyped up" on coke or dying to buy coke and you are in their way and you need to get the fck off the phone.
it's not an easy thing to deal with "out of the blue". Usually you tell the kid to fck off and then he gets even more angry and tells you he's going to "take you off" or something like that.
then you hang up and turn around and see 6 teenagers ready to rip you apart and you just look at them and they tell you to *beep* off and you walk away. you sat fsomething and they say something and blah blah blah...
if you're smart ya get the hell out of it.
