On December 17th I will be putting together a new system and am planning on buying (if I have enough money) two 22" maybe 24" monitors. I've googled and I cannot for the life of me figure out what the best monitors are in that size range. Every review I've read is basically positive.

Danawa has far too many options for me to narrow it down there. Additionally many of the reviews on English sites are for monitors not on Danawa. Does anyone have a personal recommendation on a monitor purchased recently.

the panel is the most important thing, so anything that uses a S-IPS (LG) or S-PVA (Samsung) will probably be good. don't get those that use the older generation panels (TN).

after that, it's a matter of build quality/construction. you generally get what you pay for in this area. if you pay for the premium brand (Samsung or LG), you'll get much better build quality. if you pay for the cheaper generic brands, you'll essentially get a cheap plastic casing to hold the panel in place.

there's a big difference between a 22" or 24" monitor though. the 24" will do 1920x1200, which means it can handle Full HD movies. the 22" won't.

Maybe not normally, but I would think you could get a 22 inch that does. I'm running 1920x1200 right now, and it's on a 17 inch LCD...

with 22" it might be possible (although i've never seen one), but a 17" running 1920x1200, really?! i didn't know they could make pixels that small. do you mind if i ask the model and the price of that monitor?

Anyhow I think I'm going to head to Yongsan and choose a monitor there. Maybe I'll get one 22" and one 24" same brand so they match just different sizes.

Yeah, everyone who uses my computer complains about how tiny everything is, but once you get used to it it's quite nice. Extremely sharp.

It's actually my laptop screen, so you can't buy them for a desktop. Dell 9300 with the high res screen upgrade.

So, you're racked by indecision and befuddled by selection, huh? Damned glad to hear it. Giddy in fact. Because misery loves company, and particularly more knowledgeable and experienced company. For I, too, have been sitting on the Big-ass Monitor Fence for weeks now, maybe even a month, and I'm really no closer to pulling the trigger today than I was when I first decided to go big-ass monitor. I've scoured the archives here on Technology and other places, and was encouraged to discover that quite a number of you geeks have been waylaid by this very same conundrum.

SO WTF IS IT WITH 22"+ MONITORS?!!

Defies all logic and rationality in my case. I can't stand thinking about the hours upon fruitless hours I've already frittered away with product research and comparison, and still no monitor. What a criminal waste of time this has turned into! Mad ... For crying out loud, I've spent considerably less time than this deciding whether or not to buy properties! Makes no fkking sense. And it would be high farce indeed for me at this stage to try & look for a "budget-priced" model because "it would save me money" (harr!). Rolling Eyes

What do you care if they "match" design-wise OR size-wise, you're not going to stick two of those monsters on one desk, surely. I personally haven't used a one-monitor setup in this century (except for when travelling), so I NEED 2 big-ass monitors. But for the rest of you kids, surely it's overkill. No? Razz

Me? I haven't made one yet. Mad

Please help me out, Spliff! Crying or Very sad This is driving me crazy. I saw your posts in a few related threads, you were touting the BTC Zeus ones, right? Some of the ones that would suit my needs input/output-wise look fugly and overly wide with hideous "wing" or "handle" appendages on the sides. One was featured on engadget.com and every commenter trashed the looks of the monitor and praised the looks of the K-hawtie sprawled over the desk beside it. I concurred.

I want TV tuner, but less for actually watching TV and more because that almost guarantees it'll have the most comprehensive array of I/O including component and composite IN. That's a gotta-have.

As far as size, I suppose 22, 23 or 24-inch would be okay. Wait, does 22" handle 2 pages of A4 (actual size) side by side? Also, why is the 23" category so sparse? On bb.co.kr, there are 28 models in the 23" line, of which NONE are Samsung or LG. Why do the big names skip that niche?

Yes I am going to stick them both on one desk. One will be oriented vertially and the other will be horizontal. Who doesn't work with two monitors on thier desk. Honestly I want to go with 3 or 4 but the budget (re: wife) doesn't allow for that.

Problem for me is that the step up from 22 to 24 is too much wedge.

For the price of one 24 you get one and half 22"

So for the money two 22" is a better deal.

Now if you could get two which rotated vertically that would be interesting. Wide and tall.

have been thinking about this and am waffling between getting two 22" monitors or one 24" and eventually getting the second one. Kind of leaning towards the two 22".

I know I want one of them new big screens to watch downloaded movies on. I see them in E-Mart and Homeplus and think, "gosh, these the prettiest monitors I have ever seen." They have come a long way in the past 2 years with thin screen monitor quality. I haven't bought one since I can't pack it in my luggage next month, but I plan to buy one next time.

SH, do you happen to know why the 23" niche is so thin on the ground, and why Samsung & LG aren't in there at all? Seems to me it has some advantages -- it does 1920x1200 natively (which 22" typically doesn't, right?), it's an inch larger than 22" but unlike the "price wedge" between 22" and 24" that mrsquirrel mentions as a turnoff, one doesn't seem to pay an arm & a leg for that extra inch on 23" models. Just curious if you've ruled out 23" models and why.

Superhero -- Did you get them yet? Which model(s) and how do you like them?

The rest of you -- C'maaan, suggest something! Personal product reviews, what to steer clear of, anything!! Yet another weekend passes and I still haven't pulled the trigger. Evil or Very Mad
