They should be done - just a matter of how the implement is the concern. Why all the rumours and discussion concerning this? Just wait and see what happens. If they have anyone smart they will get their act together.

1. It's about time Korea got inline with the rest of the world with medical checks for foreigners wishing to work here. Russia officially requires HIV tests. China requires medical tests. Korea should adopt the Taiwan system. It seems to have the best system - you fly in on a tourist visa, find a job. When all the official crap is being done, you DON'T have to leave the country They do a full medical at the hospital there - blood, stool, urine, measurements, chest x-ray, eyes, doctor interview. ( test for loads of things - drugs, pregnancy,STD's and parasites. Took 1 Hour, cost a 100$ when I was there. Not sure why that can't be done here.

2. Criminal checks - I've never had to get one before - this is a first - I will just find out how difficult it is too get and how time consuming it is to see if I will be back after March.

3. Interviews - this is unrealistic and they know it - it will be scrapped.

4. All this notorization of documents etc is not going to fly if people can only get it done in their own country - no one will go back for this.

Just wait and see what happens.

I have no problem personally with the criminal record check.

I object strongly and vehemently to a Medical check.

Guys, if you had AIDS or had a criminal past, would you submit for a drug test or criminal record check?? Of course not. Only the people who are clean would volunteer to undergo those tests. The people with something to hide would just work illegally. In our building, one school is entirely staffed by workers on tourist visas. I don't have a problem with the Korean government tightening up the regulations, but then they also have to crack down on the hogwans that continue to hire illegals. Otherwise, it's just another case of people who play by the rules having to jump through hoops for no reason.

What do you mean by "had AIDS in the past"? I never knew they found a cure.

i agree with having medical and criminal checks done, in fact, i've had both done for my current job. it wasn't a huge hassle. the only thing i do have a problem with is the possibility of having these medical checks done in Korea.

the idea of being told which doctor/clinic i have to go to, and having a doc that may have very little English speaking ability, in addition to the fact that many Korean doctors here don't like answering questions about what they're doing, they think we should just shut up and do what we're told. no thanks.

I don't have a problem, in principle, with having the checks done. I do, however, have a problem with the lack of privacy regarding those checks and the fact that not all foreigners are being asked to do so, only a select few, and no Koreans at all. If this is to "protect the children", nationality and visa status have nothing to do with it.

What does one's medical history have to do with protecting children in any way shape or form?

I donno, call me crazy but I believe that my medical history is private. Give me a reason why they need it to keep children safe.

I don't object to them asking for a drug test, because I can see how that would be relevant.

Agreed..............I also did a Med check for my job no problems.

BUT!!! The idea of being told which doctor/clinic I have to go to
this is junk! Period! Rolling Eyes

One easy example why!

Confucianism! Doctor disagrees with your Past..Tattoos, earrings, piercing long since closed or that you still have a few strategically placed, Wink A nice scare from your football days, or you look like the guy who dated their perfect daughter and your OUT!

Or example two:
All the above and they pass you fine. Then just GIVE ALL OF YOUR INFORMATION TYPE WRITTEN to your new school/BOE/POE /boss/co-workers/lunch ladies/janitor/and the old guy begging near the subway.

Getting a check within a defined outline and with a doctor I trust is NOT an issue..

LOL ok my rant is over I went to the doctor the other day lol so still snippy about it lol and yes EVERYONE came .but they did hold my hand for my FLU shot. Shocked

Can't these immi folks realize that if I was a criminal I wouldn't even be allowed to leave the US? My passport would have been flagged? They just want to show their power and make the evil waygooks jump thorugh hoops. It gives them some entertainment and something to do. Rolling Eyes
