What's up with characters flying in martial arts movies? I heard it had something to do with a very old form of martial art, but come on.... Flying?
Also, I've seen characters get zapped with another's chi force. Is there a martial art that actually trains you to focus your chi like that, or is this purely for special effects? |

Asians can actually move that fast and fly. They just don't want to brag about it. All these movies are actually documentaries. |

I did see a "chi" martial art demonstration on TV once some time ago.
I think it came out of China and the martial art was called "Xi Qong", I don't remember exactly.
I DO remember some Chinese guy could wave his hands in front of people not physically touching them and knock them over. It looked fairly legit though it was some time ago and I may not be remembering it well.
More impressive was the much more plausible martial art where the guy could floor anyone just by having body contact at some point. The one example I remember showed him with his opponent's index finger in the middle of his palm, he just pushed and applied pressure in all the right directions and knocked the guy right over. Pretty cool stuff. |

Then there is the video of a 10th level chi-gong master (or whatever it is called) challenging anyone to knock him out. The old master waves his hands around for a bit before the young pup proceeds to punch him in the face till he falls over. LOL. CHI my ASS

The west has their "Matrix" and superhero movies, but China has these "superhero" movies.
Of course they can't fly.
What's more silly? Spider webs coming out of a person's wrist or an old man flying around?
They are each from their respective cultures and perspectives. |

On this same topic, I'd like to take lessons on how to run/jump faster than an exploding fireball. Does anyone know where I can learn to do this?
Another question: Why are bad guys in Western movies such bad shots? The heroes almost never get hit even though hundreds of bullets are flying around. |

I believe it is the inherently flawed DNA that is found in bad guys which causes them to shoot so poorly. I have another more confusing question. How can both G.I JOE and COBRA line up 15 feet from each other, all with automatic weapons, and no one manage to get shot? I mean the good guys should be mowing them down right? That really bothered me as a kid.
I remember the first time I saw an episode of ROBOTECH as a kid. It was the coolest thing I had ever seen. People getting blown away, not getting out of jets before the missles hit. I remember running over to my buddy's house to tell him about it. LOL. |

I believe Xi Qong is supposed to be the healing aspect of the discipline. The words are often spelled chi or gong, and training in this area is common in many Eastern martial arts. If you see someone breaking a spear with the point in their throat they will tell you it's chi.
However, most of the tricks they do can be duplicated quite easily by magicians or groups who put on "tough guy" shows, as I like to call them. Also, they never seem to be able to generate results in a lab setting. This suggests that there's nothing terribly special going on.
I did find a youtube video one time with an acupuncturist guy who seemed to be able to generate electricity though. That was pretty interesting.
As far as the flying, I don't think any of them claim to be able to do that. |

Thank you for confirming my suspicions.
If there a hakwon that teaches ppl how to fly, I'd really appreciate the directions (flights are pretty expensive, so self-propulsion seems to be my best option). Anyway, I think I saw one in Jongno, but I don't quite remember exactly where... |

All those oldskool type martial arts movies are often based on legend and it's told as such. |
