I've been reading through the posts about this but have come up with no clear answer. Maybe it's too early.

Say you work in Korea now and you aren't going to renew your contract. You're going home to the states for a few months then coming back to work for another school. If you have to go to a korean consulate for an interview, you have to drive 12-16 hours roundtrip in my case for that? My hometown in the states doesn't have a korean consultate. And you can't go to Thailand now for three months and come back to korea? You have to go to Thailand and then home to the states for the interview and then back to Korea? Seems crazy. Anybody know the for-sure answers?

Ah, another one of the many inquiries. I understand why you ask, because immigration law is currently a commingled mess as a knee jerk reaction to a few incidents that caused Korea bad image with it's ESL industry.

It's still a toss up on how the new visa application process will work. Some sources say you have to go home for a consulate interview and some have said you don't have to. Some say apostilled FBI check and some say only a local police check. Some say an apostilled diploma and no consulate notarized copies while some say only original notarized and apostilled diploma documents will be accepted. Some say you can get the medical done at home and some say you get it shortly after returning to Korea which if you don't pass, you have to immediately leave on your own dime. This will cause big problems, especially if someone in charge doesn't want foreigners in Korea or if they do a drug test and a foreigner fails it after smoking a marijuana joint outside of Korea shortly before starting a new job.

It really is one big cloud on how things are to play out, but only time can tell and I am taking my time on applying for another job at this point as I want to see how the next 3 months plays out and what happens. I might opt to come back in August if things are working and well set in stone like they were before the swirly faced Neil basket case came about to ruin the ESL party.
