Anyone hear about the Incheon English Village? Is this place any good? Anyone have experience with the place? How is Incheon by the way? Should I even bother or go full steam ahead for Seoul? I want to experience the culture and be in a place with some form of nightlife. Thanx |

i've met three teachers in person and they hated it. i didn't ask why because i didn't care to, the look on their faces as they drank their beer said enough. also, last year at the incheon arts center, some of the teachers had to sing and dance, in front of an auditorium full of media, korean and foreign public school teachers, to YMCA by the village people. i was embarassed for them...it was quite lame. |

I work at the Incheon English Village and well no I would not recommend it at all. There are many thins that I could tell you and if you want to know I can tell you just ask but to put it nicely, Incheon sucks, you have to take a shuttle bus to work, you work with over 30 different foreigners who are all in cliques and the food sucks as well. Any specific questions feel free to ask. |
Thanks for sparing me with Incheon. I talked to the Headmaster who was really nice and said some amazing things about the school but it was really just rhetoric. She really tried to sell me. I received a contract and am not too enthralled with it. I thought the shuttle bus was a cool thing though to save money on transportation but you are the second person to mention that it is not cool. Thanx for the feed back. I was wondering what your hours are like there? And is Seoul easily accessible as the Headmaster made it seem? |

There is Incheon English Village (ICEV) and Incheon Seogu English Village / Global Education Center (GEC). Oddly enough, these two are basically across the street from each other in the far northern part of the 'western' district of Incheon (Seogu).
ICEV is run by the city of Incheon (Ministry of Education?). GEC is run by Woongjin ThinkBig, and supported by the Seo (gu) district of Incheon. |

The hours there are basically 40 hours a week. Either a 9-5 shift or a 1-9 shift. I don't know how long ago Cazador83 worked there but a lothas changed in the past year even as I have been working. The English Village is realizing that there are not that many people that can afford to send their kids away to a "Camp". So, that said ICEV is trying to overly expand its programs to make up for the lack of interest in the Main Program. So there is now a "Fun Camp" that is run all week along with the Main Program and now they have even extended themselves to teach an Adult Program as well as a Island Program where you are shiiped off to an Island and stared at like a money and used to just be their as a foreign face. So, many things have changed over the past year. No, ICEV is not so close to Seoul. The apartments are located in an area where you can take a bus about an hour to Hapjeong, which I guess isn't too bad I take it a lot but that is to get out of Incheon as much as I can. If you have any more questions please ask. I don't want anyone else to be mislead with information especially when chosing a school and having a years contract you should know what you are getting yourself into. |
Are you working weekends? How is working witht he headmaster like? What is the curriculum like and also how does the vacation period work? You can send me a private message if you're uncomfortable posting publicly. Thanks for the info. I am looking over the contract now and will make a decision shortly. I think i'd rather be in Seoul or even Jeju-do if that is at all possible. What do you recommend? Thanks dude. |
