No, no, no...Korean female lead loses glasses, Korean male lead loses interest in Aussie chick, and all is well in the land of Korea. I guarantee this is what happens.

I heard that she goes to some foreigner bar and gets hit on by a western male. Very interested in how they portray this character, and most important, what happened.

Since when has Korean entertainment depicted foreingers in Korea realistically?

I am very interested to see this movie. The sexual politics of it seem interesting. Korean man, western foreigner. Does the Korean female lead score on any western foreigner?

I'd bet tripple nickels to the dime that she doesn't.

When has there ever been a sympathetic or realistic depiction of an interracial/international Korean female-Male relationship IN Korea?

Ican think fo one and only vaguely realistic - a rief flashback in Park Kwang-soo's BRILLIANT "Cheol-Soo and Man-soo" (Cheol Soo hwa Man Soo) - where Park Joong-hoon loks back at how his raditional, rat-basatard pop drove away his mom, his older sis (she marreid a BLONDE - lol - "American"), and then after hitting the soju hard because he had destroyed his own family - his "prized" male bloodline carrier - Cheol-soo a well.

Cheol-soo and Man-Soo is a briliant film and I very highly recommend it. It was made right around the time South Korea democratized itself and deals with the haves and have-nots and how children inherit the supposed sins of their parent in ap olitically f'd up sk.

The plot follows two painters - a hard drinkin' loner who gets by going way up in the sky to do his billboard work (Ahn Seong-gi in ne of his multidunal perfect perfomrances). He wants to go to America and in the interim has dreams of starting his own Painting company. His pop was a democratic activit rotting in a jail so he can't get a visa.

The other protaganist is an artistically gifted wise ass (Park Joong-hoon) who has the hots for a University cutie working in one of Seoul's burger kings. The young man is a daydreamer and pathological liar, but his charisma endears him to the older billboard painter and they end up doing something on the old Cobalt tower in Kangnam. thigns get out of hand when the pair - while on the job high p n the sky - get loaded on Soju and scream at the world about their problems. of coure, way down on the gorund - peole think it's a protest and things spiral rapidly (and tragically) out of control.

Brilliant film.

Cheers,

Joe

My favorite is a music video (which I haven't seen in forever, I warn you) that shows a Korean guy out on a ski vacation somewhere in the Rockies. He meets a Korean girl and instantly crushes on her. But the poor man can't ski very well, and she has a blonde American boyfriend.
Well, anyways, one of the scenes involves the blonde guy smacking his girl hard across the face. Because you know, domestic violence is only a Western thing!
Anyways, Korean guy tries to impress girl with his skiing, gets in trouble, A Korean ski patrol guy saves the man from death, but sacrifices his own life to do it, and I am sure the girl comes to her senses and ditches the Blue-eyed Devil.

Sorry to dig up such an old thread, but I just recently got to see this movie (since I don't live in Korea, I have to import the DVD) and I love it. My sister (who isn't and has no plans to learn Korean) loves it too. I found that they didn't portray foreigners too negetively, and was an absolute pisser if you understood the culture behind it.
Recently I went to a friend from church's house to have dinner. (an all-Korean affair (except me of course)) and one of the girl's Indian boyfriend brought his protable DVD player (luckily it was multi-zone).
So the six of us were huddled around the table watching please teach me english, pissing ourselves laughing. A night to remember... <sigh> Cool
