meh...hardware is hardware.

Notice also, that the macbook is very likely the most expensive notebook out there.

Yeah I agree with this. Apple, whatever.

Cult of Mac evangelists are the worst.

Meaningless.

So, you have a notebook with Intel guts running Windows fast? Wow. Alert the media.

Mac is only a brand name for a PC.

That didn't take long, lol.

I agree that hardware is hardware, aside form the Processor, and video card, the Mac is comprised some different hardware.

And considering the longtime rivalry between Mac's and Windows Pc's, as well as the banter of anti mac people who have continuously bashed macs for years because: 1. They aren't compatible with mainstream software and 2. They use inferior hardware. It's amusing that Macs now run more software than windows pc's do and that they run it better. You gotta admit if someone told you, even two years ago that this would be the case you would might fall out of your chair laughing. I would have.

The macbook pro isn't even close to being the most expensive notebook out there, not even close. It isn't cheap though.

I love how anytime a person posts anything Mac or Apple related, the same people come out and have absolutely nothing positive or constructive to say. And nearly always the use the same old tired arguments or rhetoric to describe Macs.

Example: Superhero who proudly displays an anti-mac avatar, and has never had anything constructive to say regarding Macs or Apple related topics ever.

I personally really like OS X, Leopard is great. But I also like to Run XP and even Vista has some redeeming features (most notably its sound and video editing suite). I like them all, hell I want to build a home PC using Red Hat Linux in Korea. But right now the only machine I can use that can provide everything I want is a Mac. Does this make me a fan boy, cult follower or "soul-patch wearin macgroupie"? I think not.

Its too bad some people have nothing better to do than respond to posts negatively because they have anger issues about a computer brand.

And so too, those who feel the need to promote a given brand and troll with it.

The truth is that nobody has any doubts about Mac performance, but like the *nix crowd, there is a large chip on the shoulders of those who use non-mainstream products; a kind of pseudo-unity in being 'different'. Apple have played this to the hilt and have actually made people believe (especially evident in the OP's link) that there is something really unique going on.

Well, there isn't. Without MacOS, there is nothing to write about. As I said, the notebook in the link is a brand-name, that's all. Like Alienware, for example, who also build rocket systems. It's the Cult of Mac that is annoying; insulting marketing and lemming-like devotion.

When MacOS stop being so 'different' (read: narrow), then there will be something to write about.

Dear Steve;
Stop marginalizing yourself as marketing; the tourists have long gone home. Idea

I agree with some of what you have said.

But,

I don't see how I am trolling by posting that a Mac scored highest on PC world benchmarks. I never said "ooh take that PC" or "So that is proof that Ma's are way better man!" I wasn't promoting anything just posting an article that I found interesting. I guess saying something positive about a product you like is trolling to you?

I agree that some Mac users have taken the whole "we are different, different is better" attitude to far in the past. It is annoying. Apple Does have the best brand loyalty of any computer company in the world though and there is something to be said for a company that has kept and grown it's customer base for such a long time while ignoring the mainstream. I don't think that Apple marketed its computers that way, I think though, that a lot of people using Mac's certainly have that whole snotty "we are special cause we use a Mac" attitude which sucks.

What I think you fail to see is that Apple as a company has begun changing its marketing and product stategies. Boot Camp from beta, now as a supported function of Leopard shows Apple wants more than just Pro tools users and Photoshop junkies using Macs, and it has worked. 33% of all new notebook sales in the states are now Macs. That is hardly a niche market. Apple actually wants to be a mainstream computer brand, they want more people to use their machines, not just the *nix crowd. The company has been leaning in this diretion for a while too. Apple was working on/researching using Intel chips and running Windows a long time before they were actually able to do it.

As for the ratings of Macs. PC world is hardly an Apple biased source, far from it. CNET is a biased source, but PC world come on? I think it is news because of the long standing history between Mac's and Windows PC's and how for years the biggest criticisms of Macs were speed and software two things that Apple has addressed. I think, given the history, something unique has occured. Do you know anything about how mac's work? Or why their operating system uses and has used different hardware in the past and to a lesser extent today? If you did you might see why it is pretty cool that a mac is running windows, and running it well.

Actually It's not anti-mac. It's anti-cult-of-mac. And I have had an anti-vista avatar in the past. So I am equal opportunity anti stupidity and herd mentality.

I have never said anything negative about Macs. I've only said negative things about the Cult of Mac. I've even used a Mac for a couple of hours and had no problems with it.

I understand the anti-cult attitude, as a Mac user nothing is more annoying then when someone would see me workin on my computer and come up and start takling about how Macs are a 100x better or girls who would say how they thougt my notebook was soo cute. Well i guess that last part was so bad, lol.

What I was saying is that everytime an Apple related thread has been posted you always seem to jump in with something negative to say.

Nobody ever tells me my Thinkpad is cute.

Then it is just downright ugly but it's classic ugliness at it's best and after a couple of years I still can't see my dirty finger prints on it.

The whole point is that nobody cares...and it kills the macgroupies and makes them feel a need to troll.

We have been running windows since the beginning. Now Macs can run Windows and OSX. Great! The macgroupies expect all the PC users to cry and scream foul, but...

We don't care. Most of us are not zealots about our PCs, but the Macgroupies can't figure that out. It's part of the mentality of these people. They keep looking for a fight when the PC users hold no bad feelings for Apple. Funny really. Hardware is hardware...and its all pretty much commoditized now.

Mac users are so proud of their systems and their superiority over PCs. I have to agree that Macs are impressive machines, but for all their advances, they still have to revert to using Windows. To me, that's taking 2 steps forward, 1 step back.

This weekend I will be trying the latest Beta test of Leapord OSX-86 - not sure if it's going backwards or forwards but I will post some screen shots once I have it up and running.

Surely peop using phrases like "Macgroupies" and talking about "the mentality of these people" aren't trolling at all. Step aside please.
