Why doesn't Dave start some kind of EFL online Journal for people to publish to?

Just a thought.

Would be good to disseminate general information, but the publications wouldn't count for anything career-wise. There are some highly reputable new on-line journals coming about these days, but even they are having a time of it trying to get SSCI impact factor ratings. Many people think that you just have to 'publish' to make it in academia. Not true. You have to publish in internationally recognized and rated journals. The rest is just resume fluff, and is not even acknowledged when going for a new job or applying for research funding.

In short, it might be a novel idea, but it has problems. Such ventures generally end up being idea sink holes. Nobody with credentials and a publishing history will send you anything, so the journal publishes stuff of lesser quality and value. Nobody ever references any of that material, so the journal never gets an SSCI rating...so nobody publishes...so the journal accepts lower quality articles...and so it continues.

You mentioned SCSI journal rankings before.

Here is the thing, that is a US based thing. I tried inputting some very well know Canadian and English journal ISSNs and came up with nothing in searching SCSI listings.

I think there is more to journal article publishing than getting into an American listed system...at least seems that way in Canada.

Not really. I've published in European journals with rankings (Social Science Impact Factor/Social Science Citation Index), and I know there are a ton of British journals as well. If you send me the names of the journals you put in, I can look for them. The university gives us access to the ISI Web of Knowledge site.

There was one.
It had information from almost every school in Korea and many other places. I guess when he revamped this site a few months back, he took it off.....bummer!
