|
|
Hey, I'm interested in hearing anybody's tips/advice for having some fun down in Thailand without running afoul of the law.
I'm specifically travelling to Koh Pha Ngan, but will spend a little time in Bangkok. I'm not interested in 'hard' party favors whatsoever, but a bit of herbal refreshment and some of these lovely shakes I've heard of sound excellent.
Aside from the obvious, what would you recommend doing/not doing to keep safe? I've already reckoned that one shouldn't buy things in full public view, that there are undercover folks at the Full Moon Party, and that overt public consumption aren't a good idea.
Your thoughts?
Thanks! |

If your heading for Koh Pan Hyang then you will find herbal refreshments and milkshakes. If you are going to smoke then do it around your beech hut, don't do it on Hat Rin beech during the many parties. There are lots of undercover police and they will be happy to make an easy 20,000 Baht when they nick you. Have fun but just use your head. |

My thoughts.
You're a knobber.
Why are you happy to go to another country and break their laws? Do you do it here?
I hope you get caught and have to spend you hard earned holiday money getting yourself out of Krabi jail.

Yes, I break laws everywhere I go. Whoever says they don't--in some way, shape or form--is a liar.
Anyway... |

Has anyone been to Koh Pi Pi? I heard this is a mellow small island. I am looking to live simple in huts and hang out with other casual backpacking trekkers in their 20's and 30's rather than going to expensive resorts and playing golf. I plan on doing some scuba though in Koh Tao and maybe on other islands.
What's are some good ways to travel south of Bangkok in January? I am going for my first time. |

Jesus Christ I see the Christians are out in force. Oh, and those milkshakes you will find on the menu in many a bar located by Hat Rin beech.
Koh pi pi: still popular with backpackers, but more up market post Tsunami and hence more of your package holiday types. Hences prices have been driven up, but this is true of most beech resorts in Thailand. Koh Tao is top but I would imagine very different from 5 yrs a go. It's a real shame and I love Thailand but this time round some of the charm had vanished. Five yrs a go Koh Chan was unspoilt and top notch. This time round it had an Ibizia feel to it. Nonetheless I still had a great time. |

Koh Pha Ngan: On Haad Rin beach there is a bar at the very left extreme (as you look out to sea) called Mellow Mountain. It's lit up by red lights at night... you can't miss it. You can find the items you require there. |

You can say all you want that "It's Thailand; laws are optional," but what it really comes down to is that only a fool will go to a foreign country which has tough drug laws on the books and take a chance on running afoul of them. For those who still haven't grasped that simple fact, be sure to read this story about life in a Thai prison before you go there.
My idea of fun overseas does not include sitting in a jail in Asia. Have you not noticed by now that human rights aren't exactly high on the agenda in this area of the world?
There are many things you can do in Thailand without breaking the local law. You can drink, you can go to the beaches, you can go shopping, you can visit some beautiful scenic places. |

Explain the "milkshakes." Where are they? What are they? How much are they? Are they legal? |

the worst offenders with regard to breaking thai laws are the thai police and officials. in thailand, laws are merely recommendations. be discreet with you activities and you should be fine. and....if you do so choose to indulge always have access to a nice stash of cash (approx. 20,000 baht) sitting in the ATM, as if you are busted you WILL need the cash to buy your way out of jail. |
