The Biergarten there makes the best soju slushies I've had. But it's not a reason to go to Gangnam. There's the uniform bar but, while the gimmick is a good idea, it's not played out very well. Aside from being horrendously pricey, it smells like the toliet's backed up and they've sprayed F-Killer to mask the fragrance.

Hmmmm ok then...I guess it's back to Hongdae for us then:? Which I love, but I just thought it would be nice to venture out a bit. Thanks anyways.

This is Korea. You're away from home. Be adventurous. Don't ask for advice. Don't ask permission. Live a little. Life is flying by faster than you know. Grab all you can. You're not getting any younger.

Before I complete my transformation to horrific hose-beast, I'll pm you the details if you feel you *must* check out Gangnam. It's just a glitzy, gimmicky over-priced, over-hyped money-sucker (I only go there because the late bus to Yongin leaves from there.)

There are a dozen bars in Hongdae at least as good as the single cool-ish bar in Gangnam, but it's up to you.

Yes I am very aware that this is Korea, and I certianly wasn't asking anyone for permission on anything.
What makes you think I haven't 'lived'???

Sheesh! I thought this forum was for bouncing ideas off each other. All I did was ask if anyone knew of cool places in Gangnam so that when we get there we don't have to walk around in the cold looking for places to go to. I like having a plan of action...sue me Razz

And you're only as old as you feel anyways so whether or not I'm getting older doesn't mean a damn thing to me.

Thanks!

Old post, but anywho, any place that I can go to that is atleast somewhat 'happening' ie there are more people there than just middle aged men. Thanks

Bleck. Overpriced shithole, I try to avoid it as much as possible. Especially since they tore down all of the motels that I used to stay at Sad

Speaking of Gangnam, what's it like living there? I'm looking for jobs right now, and I'm interested in any city or area that's similar to Ilsan or Bundang. (New, relatively clean, etc.)

i don't know why u guys are hating on gangnam so much. it's a bit pricy, but i still think it's a fun place. don't get me wrong, i like hongdae too, but gangnam's got a different vibe, which is good sometimes. nb is hilarious of course, but there are still some ok clubs and good bars there - the micro-brewery places are great for a treat. food's pretty good around that way too.

just sad 4x got closed down. that place was so high quality, i dunno why the man would mess with it. licensing indeed.

perhaps you could suggest a few places? I find that there are a lot of bars in gangnam, but they are more restuarant/bar. I did a little wandering on my own, but was unable to find much other than that...

true: there are many more what i'd say are nicer, traditional sorts of korean drinking places in gangnam - apart from the big, crazy hiphop clubs (hey they're an occasional pleasure) and the microbrewery places. if u enjoy beer that's actually tasty, try the latter. most of the more fun places are on the gangnam station exit 7 side (if i remember correctly - not the city cinema side) - there's castle praha on that main street there (u go downstairs to get in) it's a huge beerhall place, with great beer and nice snacks. there's also another one that's german inspired on one of the alleys - i've been there a couple of times and they've had a (quite loud) jazz band there and tasty, tasty beer. platinum's another one. i'm sorry; i don't go to gangnam much these days, because i live in what's virtually north korea, so my memory's a bit fuzzy. other than that, there's an aight (non hiphop) club just out of exit 6 - the city cinema side (?) (i think it's the one that used to be brooklyn?). i also actually like the sit-down hof environment, and there's PLENTY of that kind of thing around gangnam.

I like bar 5000 in Kangnam. I can't really explain how to get there though.
They play decent music and have a huge drink menu. The staff are super friendly and cool. They also do fire shows and bottle juggling type things. I've been there a few times, when after the fire show, people have bought rounds of hoegarden or tequila for the entire bar.

It's also the best place to go for a birthday. You'll get a personalized show put on by the staff.
