|
|
Not that I particularly care, but today I was informed that I am not eligible to sign up for a TTL card because I am a barbaric interloper.
Why? Are they worried that I might flee the country with my TTL card and stop getting discounts at KFC and the Outback Steakhouse? Joking aside, how does one misuse or abuse the benefits of such a card, exactly?
Again, I'm not going to get indignant about it, because I could care less; I was raised believing that discount cards were strictly for old people and ethnic minorities, and my F2 status probably could have cut through the red tape*. I'm just curious is all.
* Seriously, aren't us F2 holders the same as foreign embassy workers with diplomatic immunity? If not, I might be in big trouble for running down that toddler a few weeks back |

I'm with the OP. I have been turned down for a TTL card by several phone stores. When my wife and I were together, she tried to get one for me and they told her that I couldn't have one because I am not Korean. So how are you guys getting these cards? |

I've had my LG Telecom discount card for over three years. After I got my monthly contract phone with LG, I just called them up and asked for the card. It came a few days later. |

GD it, stop following me around.
At the place across from the park? The girls were appropriately helpful, cute and fawning. |

TTL: Made in 20, unless you can understand our slogan is mindless crap and therefore you're not eligible.
I betcha no Korean would be happy if they found out they couldn't get a discount card in America because they are not American. |

IIRC, it was behind Boshingak. Or maybe that's where I got my other discount card. |

I have 2 TTL cards and I KTF card. You need to go to a TTL zone to get it. I got both of my TTL cards at Coex. right across from megabox. |

From my experience, having one may not necessarily guarantee the promised discount heaven bounty of Korean paradaisical privilegeness. I don't have one, but I have a very good friend who did have one and presented it it to various fine dining establishments and after 20 minutes or so they either gave him a discount hit-or-miss.
We hypothesized that they were shocked at the sight of a foreigner brandishing one of these puppies. The 20 minutes was spent investigating through a series of phone calls to make absolutely certain that this waygook-brandished card was not nefariously stolen/wrested away from a hard-working Korean.
The discount was given sometimes, or it wasn't. In the evenings the discount was less often given than in the mornings or in the daytime. The excuse given was that foreigners were not allowed discounts (and this was the manager of said fine dining establishment, after 4 incompetent waitresses wearied from running around like headless chickens at the sight of whitey and a TTL card).
This was in 2004. Times may have progressed since then. I still don't have one. |

I never had problems with my TTL card. I'd love from some manager of TGIF, Outback, Benegans, etc. to try to tell me they wouldn't accept the discount card because I was a foreigner. I would get them to put it into writing and would then get a bonanza of freebees from the head offices when I complained about how AMERICAN chain restaurants were prejudiced towards foreign customers.
A lot of people are passive and would not do such a thing. Myself, I would probably be eating free meals for a month for such an insult. |

To the OP,
Just keep trying. I had an LG card, and now I have a KTF card. I got both of them painlessly, and have never had them turned down anywhere. However, since this is Korea, *my* getting good service won't actually prevent *you* from getting poor service. Try another store, you should be able to get one. |
