|
|
I am only seeing them in 1 GB and 2 GB sizes in local stores in Changwon, but not any larger while it is reported that they come in larger sizes. It says that there are compatability issues for putting 4 GB or larger in older devices.

My camera is only 6 months old and was a new state of the art model at the time that takes wonderful pictures and 640 X 480 video. I am wondering if I can find a big 4 GB or larger size as I believe the camera would take it.
Of course, if I can find computers during my travels to SE Asia and America such as Internet cafes to upload my videos as a storage method, then I can get by on the 2 GB cards. I don't want to run out of memory nor battery in my travels.
I would rather carry it all on memory cards and then deal with it later on my own PC. |

| I have an 8GB SD from Amazon in the US for like USD 60. It's the size of a postage stamp so my family forwarded it with some mail (not in original packaging). |

| So the big ones are not to be found in Korea stores such as E-mart and Homeplus, but in American stores? I thought Asia would be first in offering the most in hardware devices. The 2 GB costs like 68,000 won at Homeplus. |

The prices for SD cards at Homeplus etc are way too high!!
If your camera can read SDHC cards you can get an 8GB card. Regular SD only go up to 4GB I think. The 8GB SDHC cards are under 60000won online. Do you have a Korean friend? |

| Do people actually use the full storage capacity on these things? I'd much rather have 5 or 6 1gig cards, because if you lose one or it fails, you're not completely screwed |

If you are travelling for a while bigger cards would be more useful than many smaller cards, they small and could be easily lost while on the move. Card failure is rare, and in the unlikely event of failure data is often recoverable too.
4GB is a good size to use. I'd like to get one that size myself. Once it's full I know it's time to back up everything onto DVD. |

Yeah welcome to Korea where consumers are happy to pay double for anything with "samsung" stamped on it. Of course if you try to tell them samsung sells to Americans for half the price, they truly believe the best quality products are sold in Korea and inferior goods are sold abroad.
That camera place near Namdaemoon that sells "grey market" Japanese cameras might have the best prices on SD cards. |

I understand the OP wants the larger cards for video.
However, I lost my camera in China along with over 300 photos.
Making backups would have been the best solution, but
if my card was smaller I would have lost less photos.
There is a device I saw in Best Buy that lets you transfer
files from one usb device to another. |
