I would love to visit Mongolia this year but would only have a full week to do so. Is this enough time to visit and actually enjoy this country or should I wait until I am finished a contract to spend more time there during a larger trip including China?

This year? There are only 3 weeks left. Try to time a visit to include Nadam in July 2008. And Mongolia is 3 times the size of France, so you'll need all 4 weeks, to even scratch the surface. China is bigger again. I've been there 6 times, & still haven't seen everything. My advice? Finish your contract.

i think you could do it.

just go to the capital ulan bataar for 1-2 days to see the sights and what not, but it's really dirty and not much to see. it's mainly worth it to go to the guesthouses and see what trips people are taking and if people need partners to go with.

so i'd say go to UB for a couple days, then try for a camel tour through the gobi desert! if you can't do that or have more time, do another tour to see the nomadic villages. you can do them on jeep and horse as far as i know, and i hear the people are really generous and allow you to stay with them, while they feed you (i didnt have time to do this, but every traveler i met there said so).
