Guess the title explains it. I will be arriving in Bangkok at 12 midnight for my first time going and wondering what my best option is for a place to stay until morning once I get off the plane. It will probably be 1 AM by the time I make my way to ground transportation outside the airport.

Thank you for your recommendations, suggestions, and experiences. I know there is the Novotel hotel near the new airport that my travel agent suggested, but it is ridiculously expensive.

just take a taxi to wherever you want to stay. It'll cost 300-350 baht if memory serves. Not cheap by Thai standards, but since there are no buses that run at that hour, it is your best option.

There are a gazillion websites for booking rooms online. Since you're arriving so late, do yourself the favor of reserving in advance.

For a start, check these out:

asia-hotels.com

asiarooms.com

hotels2thailand.com

Once you've got a reservation (and in many cases, you can prepay), then just take a taxi from the airport.

The Plaza Hotel in Silom is a good, reasonably priced option, and the location's terrific.

Yes, or you can wait till the A-buses start to run. Then you get traffic.

Nana Plaza used to be closer to the old airport than places like Ko San Rd. -- maybe 25 mins -- probably less at that hour. BKK is just getting going at 1 am and so maybe head for Nana Plaza and you will see a lot of rooms along the Sukimvit for $12, no reservations required.

Just make sure you get a taxi from the taxi queue and not from some guy who approaches you with an offer to take you where you want in his own 'taxi' (for 700-1,000 Bhat, or about 3X the going rate).

I stopped in a nice boutique hotel in Bangkok last year when we had to stay over night. cost about 1800 a night. Can't remember the name.

The penisular near lumpini is ok as well.

Oh jeebus, I stayed there once. That must have been why even the kathoeys wouldn't go home with me. Laughing

You could add the Boston on Soi Ngam Duphli as well. Wall to wall rent boys and aged German pederasts.

The Pinacle ( I think it's called that) is on Ngam Duphli

But it's ok, gay friendly as well.

Nice hotel and cheap.

Call them as well Normally good discounts on rooms about 1k a go.

http://directrooms.com/thailand/hotels/manhattan-hotel-bangkok-679.htm

Manhattan ok as well.

Davis

again ok think we paid 3k for here

http://directrooms.com/thailand/hotels/davis-hotel-bangkok-1682.htm

Amari, Watergate - 100 dollars a night - nice place.

Lots of cheapish hotels but it depends on your budget - there isn't much difference between 1-2k but 2-3.5kyou can get some really nice places.

The other option of course is to get a taxi from the airport to wherever you are going. It used to be 3k to Ko Chang Ferry from Sukumvit. Probably the same from the new airport.
