| I doubt America will ever be as secular as Canada. And many Americans, myself included, have no problem with that. Religious people tend to take pretty good care of themselves and are not as burdensome on the taxpayer as a bunch of underemployed heroin addicts in Vancouver would be...for example. |

Uh, rates of hard drug use/addiction are much higher in the United States... As is crime. And incarceration rates, and out of wedlock births, and STD's/AIDS etc etc etc. I think this largely unrelated to religion and more to inequality and ignorance. The political will to maintain the inequality and ignorance is directly connected to the increased religiosity, however.

Well, from what I hear, rates of drug use in Canada are spiking along with the loonie. Sellers will seek out buyers and maybe until now, Canada was a bit harder to get to. And it might be wise to back up your assertions with a little factoids or something.
And conflating religiosity with inequality and ignorance is ridiculous. |

I'm from Vancouver. I've lost friends and family due to the drug issues there.
Drugs flow through the Vancouver port; cheap and pure.
At one point the downtown east side of vancouver had the highest amount of herion addicts per capita in north america coupled with the highest aids/hep. rate per capita.
I don't know if that still stands though.
No one can deny that drugs aren't a problem in Vancouver.
However it might be tough to blame it on lack of religion.
In addition, San Fran and LA are much worse overall in my opinion. Drugs plus violence is a shitty mix.
While Van has its share of drugs, the level of violent crime is much lower than most large American cities. |

| Vancouver is one of the only places in Canada (less Victoria) where you can live on the streets and not die from the cold. If you are a junkie in Canada, you make your way to Van. The problem is very, very bad there. |

I don't think the Olympics will impact it in any way. I'm sure that while the Olympics are on the city will try and hide the problem, but as soon as they are over all will return to normal. |

I can�t believe someone wrote this. Have you ever eaten meat in America, ate at a restaurant or flown in a plane. I am glad that we regulate those things. Thank you FDA and FCC!
Back at the turn of the century there were people that fought hard for the meat not to be inspected or for safety regulations to be pasted on trains. They were called republicans. Big business at the time said you will destroy us with these new regulations. Now in America we have one of the most inefficient health care systems in the world. (We pay the most in world and get 37 best care) but still today big business is saying the same things they said 100 years ago your going to destroy our business by regulating it. |
