I heard from hogwan owners and recruiters that the salaries in 2008 are expected to start at 2.5 million won because of the increased difficulty in finding teachers. Recruiters are already starting to feel the pinch and are also seeking higher recruiting fees. I'm planning to see how high they go before I make any major decisions. |

Public agencies/institutions always tend to be slower to react to market changes, so I'd expect a year to go by before they do much. |

Salaries go up?
They're going to try to move heaven and earth to make sure they recoup those costs somewhere else at the teacher's expense. |

Gyopo? Nah, they'll problably go with a Korean that can speak some English. There IS a difference. |

No. The bast5tard has burned through 7 KTs in the last 12 months. He wants a captive foreigner he can abuse who can't leave. |

If this is true, then I would guess it will take another year for public schools to up the pay scale. I noticed it didn't change from last year to this year despite inflation and increasing demand for English teacher further exceeding supply. |

This is true -- I was given an offer from CDI for 32,000 won/hr and I have a Bachelors with no formal ESL qualifications. Rock on!
I have a pretty clear understanding of what's required for the E-2 visa, and it honestly doesn't seem that bad...aside from the usual mumbo jumbo, all I have to do is make an extra call to the local police department and ask for a criminal record report on my behalf. |

red rover red rover send karuga on over..
I guess the NEW requirements will eventually be the norm for newbies.
Maybe a slight decline, at first, and then newbies as usual....
I wonder if koreans can fathom this or if they'll back off on the requirements. |

I don't know if it was a result of the visa changes but last month I was offered 2.5 to extend for a second year with my hagwon. Considering I've only been teaching for a year, I was a little surprised that they would offer such an amount. |
