That's an expensive time to travel. Try contacting all the travel agents in the travel agent sticky in teh travel forum. See who comes up with the best rates. 1700US is what I paid last year for a return ticket at about that time.

I usually fly Singapore Airlines to San Francisco, and then Midwest Airlines from there...and at least Singapore Air is a comfortable, direct flight, unlike most other carriers you'll find.

You might be able to find a combination that is cheaper than 1.7, than going with a travel agent..

United Airlines - SFO - ATL, $378 (one-way)...$452 roundtrip....

So, Singapore+United is $400-$500 cheaper, I guess...Maybe you can find cheaper, but...and everyone should fly Singapore Airlines at least once.. Smile

If you can book online and fly out the 24th you can get to SF on Singapore for 794K won...then you'd have to book another flight from SF-Atlanta which you might be able to score for $100-$150 if you are lucky.

On Singapore after 24th the fares jump to 920K. I looked on yahoo travel for a general idea they wanted $1300 minimum for the whole flight.

Seoul->SF (This is a one way cost since you didn't state when/if you'd be coming back)

SQ16 Economy Class (B777-300ER)
Seoul (ICN) 17:30
San Francisco (SFO) 11:05

TOTAL PRICE KRW 793,800
Fare for 1 Adult: KRW 682,000
Taxes & Fees: KRW 111,800
Total Fare: KRW 793,800 <----I just realized that I am taking the same flight number, but two days earlier and it cost me 1.2 mil total, I had to go to the airline's office in Seoul so I didn't get the special online price. If I'd been able to do it online my flight was approx. 960K, I got the tickets in October though.

SFO->Atlanta (the cheapest according to yahoo). You'd have about 10 hours to sit in San Francisco but it is the cheapest way to get there at this time of year. You fly over night cross country and get to Atlanta Christmas morning.

Outbound Flight

Mon, Dec 24
10:30pm Depart - San Francisco, CA (SFO) US Airways 784
Tue, Dec 25
6:20am Arrive - Charlotte, NC (CLT) Nonstop
Flight time: 4 hrs 50 min

Connection Time: 3 hrs 0 min

Tue, Dec 25
9:20am Depart - Charlotte, NC (CLT) US Airways 2659 operated by US AIRWAYS EXPRESS-MESA AIRLINES Adult Fare Rules

10:45am Arrive - Atlanta, GA (ATL) Nonstop
Flight time: 1 hr 25 min

Total Travel Time: 9 hrs 15 min

Travelers Price
Base Fare (1 adult) = $ 140.46
Taxes and Fees = $ 35.84
Total Price = $ 176.30

so 793,800won (ICN-SFO) + 163,207 won (SFO-ATL @ current exchange rate) = 957,007 won. Yahoo was showing the cheapest trip combo to be 1,475,598 and you'd still be changing planes/dealing with layovers.

I'm flying to Hawaii on Tuesday.

I use travelocity.co.uk usually... I ran a direct route from Seoul to Maui and found tickets for 1.6.

I used the multistop option and ran a route from Seoul, to Taipei, to Honolulu, to Maui and got one for 900k.

While this is not in December, I found going to Bangkok and then to LA on Thai Airways, one way, is only 1 million won from Kangsan in Busan. I am due to leave in 3 weeks after New Years.
