Hello everyone,

Me and my partner have been given the choice of teaching in either Hwaseong (Gyuggi province) or Seoul, both in public schools.

What do people reccommend? Its difficult to find extensive info on Hwaseong, is it a nice city?

Any help is gratefully appreciated!

Ed

that is easy, would you rather go to the province "of daegung chegai" or to the province "of samgetang". I think we all know what the wisest choice would be, and its good you posted this question because it will save you lots of heart ache. Good luck!

Cheers guys, any help with these questions would be appreciated too!

Ive heard Seoul can be a little overwhelming as a city, any thoughts? Will we get a sense of the 'real' Korea and not just a tourists view? Will the children were teaching be more menacing in Seoul?

As for Hwaseong, is it simply too small?

Thank you, thank you! Very Happy

Ed

While Korea has lots of pretty countryside/mountains (IMHO)...Hwaseong has only its fort.

So indeed there's a pretty and historic fortress, but other than that the area is (again just my opinion) lacking in those benefits we look to when deciding not to live in Seoul.

Between the two, Seoul.
No question.

If you want smaller city/countryside, there are MUCH better options than Hwaseong. Very Happy

Seoul can be overwhelming due to the amount of people and traffic. The services and attitudes of all those people toward foreigners is much more evolved than small city people.

Seoul has everything a regular big city has, including tons of restaurants you are going to end up traveling to Seoul for if you live away from it.

Hwaseong seems to attract serial killers. Women are afraid to go there at night.

Eh.

So no fort even. I thought it was closer- my memory fails me. Seoul it is.
