What can you tell me about these suburban areas outside of Seoul?
Gwacheon city
Anyang
Gunpo (sanbon)
Gwangmyeong
I'm trying to get a public school job and these are the locations being offered to me. Are any of these places okay?
Thanks,
Hoss. |

I lived in Sanbon last year. Nice, clean modern suburb. Has a good community of foreigners. There were a couple of regular places that foreigners would hang in. Not the most exciting place, but close enough to Seoul. |

Gwacheon is very nice, one of the nicest areas in Seoul where many rich live. Anyang is convenient and nice, but sometimes boring. Gunpo is a dump, only home to many factories and migrants. Gwangmyeong is in the middle of nowhere and only has a KTX station. All are connected to Seoul within 45 minutes on the subway, but Gwacheon is closest. Gwacheon also has the Seoul zoo, Seoul lands, museums, and horse racing track. |

I think Anyang would be the most exciting. Sanbon is nice, quiet, and out of the way without being too remote. Closer to around Gunpo Station it would be less nice though. |

Thanks for the information. It looks like the general consensus is that Gwacheon and Anyang are the best of the four suburbs mentioned. Any other opinions are welcome.

I think you can't go wrong with Sanbon, Anyang and Gwacheon.
Sanbon is known as a particularly rich area. All are on the 4 Line so its easy to get to Gangnam. |

Gwacheon is 30 minutes closer to Seoul than Anyang and Sanbon and WAY nicer and newer. I live in Anyang and it's really boring after a couple months and the one hour ride to Seoul from here gets frustrating after a month. |
