so if there is a grace period to march 15 for current E-2 visa holders, i will probably renew. i have some questions:

1. am i renewing at my actual school or the school board? can i switch schools?

2. if i decide not to take the 2 weeks home leave (with paid airfare) and just take the 2 weeks off here, if i have to go home before the 6mth mark of my renewal, will they still pay my airfare home? will they ask me to reimburse them for the 2 weeks off?

This is the rule regarding public school renewal, which I found on the immigration.co.kr website.

교육인적자원부(국제교육진흥원장) 주관으로 모집․선발된
원어민 영어보조교사에 대한 사증 발급
 국제교육진흥원장 및 시도교육감이 발행한 합격증을 소지한 원어민 영어보조 교사에 대한 사증발급은 종전의 절차와 동일함
- 사증신청은 신청인의 본국이 아닌 제3국에서도 신청이 가능하며, 영사인터뷰도 담당 영사가 필요하다고 판단될 시 실시
 이건 개정된 지침 시행 이전에 입국하여 초․중․고등학교에 근무하고 있는 원어민 영어보조교사의 경우 외국인 등록 또는 최초 체류기간 연장 시에 범죄경력증명서 제출은 생략하고, 건강진단서 대신 에이즈 검사와 마약복용 여부를 위한 검사(TBPE검사, 카니비노이드검사) 결과서만 제출
※ 학교장이 직접 고용하여 사증발급인정서를 발급받은 원어민 영어보조교사는 이건 변경된 지침에 따라 처리됨

It says that anyone working in a middle, elementary, or high school DOES NOT have to submit a background check - already confirmed by the office of education - for renewal or extension. The only requirement is that you have to submit a test that includes basic health, drug, and HIV screening. Again, this comes from immigration and is the OFFICIAL RULE regarding public school E-2 visa extension/ renewal. If you require verification, have a Korean read it to you in its entirety from the immigration.co.kr website.
