Bosses Who Withhold Wages
With more employers intentionally and habitually delaying payments...
The ministry estimated that unpaid wages for foreign laborers totaled W3.1 billon ($2.6 million) as of the end of October, or W2.15 million for each worker on average. By business category, 54.8 percent of payment delays occurred in the manufacturing sector with 26.4 percent in the construction sector.
The government also decided to carry out special inspections on companies that cause trouble by delaying payments to foreign workers.

The petrol-bomb protest held Sunday evening in downtown Seoul clearly had prior organization. Some 700 petrol bombs were thrown, and accounts of how they were thrown in coordination, at someone's command, speak of this. The excuse given by the leadership of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, about how it "tried to have a peaceful demonstration but a clash occurred because the police got overzealous," just won't work.
Why do young riot police have to be hit with your petrol bombs and become targets for your air-powered hunting guns? You say you want to make a "world with worker liberation from oppression and exploitation." But who is oppressing and exploiting labor?

I had problems with my previous employer witholding wages owed.. got it all in the end but thankfully I'm no longer with the eejit. Its hard to budget and plan when you can't be sure of your exact payday...seems to be a korean habit. ("They'll work harder and be more motivated if you keep dangling those elusive wages in front of them). The poor DDD industrial workers from poor countries must get it far worse. |

I had a really sleazy boss once who hired a Korean to teach Japanese. On payday the boss asked the teacher to wait a few days. Then a few more days. Then a few more days. Finally, the teacher gave up and quit.
The next day there was a new Japanese teacher. On payday the same mantra was replayed. After a couple of months, that teacher quit without ever having been paid.
As long as I worked at that pit, no Japanese teacher ever got paid, but there was always a teacher. What a scam. |
