I'm leaving for Korea and I want to take my external hard drives. What would be the best way to take them? I'm afraid to carry it on the plane because they do that scan thing and it'll ruin the hard drives right? But don't they scan your checked luggages too? Wouldn' t that ruin the hard drives?

I packed mine in my laptop bag. There were no problems whatsoever. I have done this perhaps 8 or 10 times now.

So is this true? Do you mean the security "x-ray", if that's what it is these days?

The only thing that can erase a hard drive is a very strong magnetic field. X-rays won't do it.

Hard drives do have a problem with low air pressure, but only if they are powered on and only in an unpressurized aircraft at high altitude.

Do you surf the net a lot in your Cesna? And what do small plane owners do when they have to 'go?'
