My roommate is going back to Canada for winter vacation tomorrow. She will be exchanging a large sum of cash, and doesn't want to have to carry a thick wad of man won's in her wallet to the airport.

Does anyone know if the currency exchange booths at Incheon airport will accept the checks (cheques) that atm's here in Korea will issue you? She doesn't want to show up with checks, only to find out she won't be able to exchange them.

Thanks!
Smile

I'm afraid I can't answer that question....but you might want to suggest that she avoid the currency exchange at the airport...at all airports for that matter. They usually have a big spread between the bid and ask, which makes it expensive.

When I made my visa run earlier this year I gave some of the checks the banks issue to the currency exchange in the airport. All I had to do was sign back like many places make you do. They seem to treat the checks the same as cash at the airport currency exchange.

They do accept checks. I just got back from Thailand, and all I had to do was sign it on the back, and show them my passport. No problems.

The spread between the buy and sell rates at the currency exchange booths at the Incheon airport IS THE SAME as the spread at the bank branches in town.

There is NO difference between the INCHEON BANK exhangers and the bank branch of the same bank company in your neighborhood.

This is NOT the same at other airports around the world. Most do have a larger spread between the buy and sell rates.

There are also ATM machines at the airport for your convenience and they take domestic AND foreign ATM cards.
