|
|
Hi,
I am planning on buying my co-workers some small gifts for xmas, and while I intend to write them each a personalised note in English, I thought it would be a nice touch to put a greeting in Korean for them too. Normally for any basic translation such as this, I would ask one of my co-workers for a few seconds of their time, but obviously that isn't an option here, nor do I have too much faith in 'machine translations'.
I would be really grateful if someone could help out with a quick generic translation.
Something like:
Dear "John"
I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Regards
"Pete"
Thanks in advance |

I suggest just giving nice Christmas cards - you can probably find some with Korean messages at major book stores and in malls.
I've seen a large selection in front of the Youngpoon Bookstore at the Express Bus Terminal station (Orange line 3) and at the front entrance of Technomart (Green line 2, Gangbyeon station.)
As for myself, I gave out cards for a couple years, but at a public school with many teachers and administrators I've decided that it's not really practical or necessary to do so again. |

Why translate? Thats not important. They'll get the message. Be of good cheer! |

"Merry Christmas" in Korean now is 메리 크리스마스! Yes, it sounds like English, but that's okay. The word Christ comes from Greek. Anyway, here is a list in quite a few languages.
I agree with the poster above: Why translate? For Easter, I gave each of the teachers in my school a fortune cookie. They were delighted to get the thing and the ones who don't know English had fun working out the fortune! |
