|
|
I'm staying with a relative of mine who is currently using hanaro as his ISP. I've been trying to connect my laptop (mac) through a broadband router (via ethernet cable) which is connected to his modem. At first, everything was working fine and I was able to connect to the internet at fairly high speeds. However, a little while later the internet just stopped working.
I called up Hanaro and they basically told me if i wanted to add another computer through a router I have to pay more. Now my question is, is this a bunch of baloney and are they just trying to make an extra buck? How does this work for wireless routers then, do you have to pay more?
I know this isn't the states, but I thought if you had a router (wireless or not) it was simply plug and play with no extra fees... Any help is appreciated!
cliffs: Called up hanaro, said I had to pay more if I wanted to connect an additional computer through a router, any way around it?? |

Are you sure you have a router and not just a hub? How did you configure it AND to answer your question... It depends on how your home network is configured.
IF you get 2 IP addresses from Hanaro, they will change you for each one.
If your router has 1 address from Hanaro and then uses internal IP addressing for the computers on your LAN then you only pay for 1 hookup (1 IP address) and Hanaro won't know how many computers are on your LAN.

Yeah, my guess is that you have to find out what IP address settings are (on the one computer that was hooked up) are supposed to be, and put them in the router. |

they are feeding you BS, they pulled the same shyt with me. You have to configure your router properly, a task that took me hours of trial and error, because my router menus were all in korean.
It works though. |

You have to use something called NAT, Network Address Translation.
Looks like 1 address to the ISP, but you can have infinite computers (or nearly).
Your home router should have NAT built in, that's the whole purpose of having a home router. |
