Seen any of these lately? We had one today. The principle decided to have a special assembly to open our new gymnasium right in front of the new gym, after which the students would clean the new gym. Usually I can find a way to get out of them but today the VP wanted me to come for whatever reason. Some points to note when planning an assembly:
- Have enough space. 400 students crowded into about 3,000 square feet will create crowd control problems.
- Have a loud enough loudspeakers. When a teacher puts a mic down and finds it's more effective just to yell, you've got quietspeakers, not loudspeakers.
- Don't distribute several hundred wash cloths to students who are about to be herded into a small space to listen to a boring speech. They're very fun to throw around if your teachers can't properly monitor you.
- When a middle and a high school are having an assembly together, it would be a good idea to appoint someone from each school to liason with each other. |
