hi. a veteran teacher insists that foreign teachers in korea get 1 day paid vacation per month and that such can accumulate. the boss, who also stiffed me on chusok and has now taken away christmas vacation, is saying the "1 day/month paid vacation" used to be a rule but that rule has been voided.
any straight shooters wanna plink some bottles for me? |

Being foreigners and contract English teachers in Korea doesn't give us much in the way of rights other than what your signed contract reads. Chances are that if it's not written in your contract, you're not going to get it. |

Yes, but only if agreed to by both parties by their respective signatures on a contract....did you sign? Me thinks so.... |

in the JOB DISCUSSION FORUM in the thread titled KOREAN LABOR STANDARDS ACT* UPDATED article 57, subsection 1 reads: "an employer shall allow one day's leave with pay per month" and the very next line reads "Article 57...deleted 2003".
so, the old vet was right once upon a time and the boss is right. the one day per month w/ paid leave has been axed.
yeah, i signed a contract. it stated that the only holidays were the ones listed on the official calendar (i also added in a provison allowing for additional vacation days as mutualy agreeded upon). we were to have the 27 & 28th off as run-up to the new year but such is rescinded by him today. now we have precisely 12/25 off and 1/1 off. |
