I have been in jail a few times, playing the game MONOPOLY! Too, I thumped one of my cousins hotels of the board.

My first year here I worked with a guy who was wanted for white collar crimes back in Canada. He totally fleeced his business partner when their business went under and the guy had to sell all his assets, and he had a young family. He's still here. I don't know how he plans on getting around that police check. I'll betcha he runs somewhere else in Asia. Good riddance~

16 of Dave's posters have criminal records, and counting.

Might be 50-100 teachers in all at this rate!

and get a basic disclosure and it won't show up cautions which have been spent. Whether these would be accepted by immigration is another matter, but I reckon you would be fine. They probably don't know the difference between a Subject Access Check and a CRB Basic Disclosure.

Actually, cautions are neve classed as 'spent', but they will be dropped after a period of time depending on the charge.

Generally they will be dropped after 5 years, however; some cautions (drugs) are 10 years.

Does the scotland check show cautions? It only mentions convictions and unspent offences on the basic disclosure.

Having check up on this stuff for myself, I can say that Canada is crazy. If you have been arrested, even if you were found innocent at trial or never went to trial, you have a criminal record. The term criminal record is a loose one. In Canada, as soon as you are arrested, you have a CPIC file. If the charges are subsequently dropped or you are found not guilty, you must make a formal request to the arresting police force that they request the RCMP to destroy your photo and fingerprints. If you don't do this you will most likely be turned away from the US because if they see you in CPIC they consider it a criminal record. A record of conviction is a different matter. On a Canadian CPIC check there is very strange language like "a record may or may not exist". Criminal records in Canada are a very disorganized mess. Hope you all write to your local pigs if you have ever been arrested, photographed and, fingerprinted. The records people at my local PD were super helpfull.

The police force check (Subject Access) will show everything that is on the Police National Computer. Nothing gets taken off there since the Soham murders. It will show cautions.

The Basic Disclosure is the way to go if you have a Caution to hide, but again it has to be after the retention period...I can't remember the term for it now but after 5 years a Drunk n Disorderly gets taken off the record for a Basic Disclosure, but will stay there for an Enhanced Disclosure.

When I was young I wrote some songs and verses that were so bad there should have been some sort of law against them.

Also, the standard of spelling of some posters here is "criminal", but... Smile

Not sure about cautions. I was convicted of an offense ten yrs ago and it never showed up on my basic disclosure check.

Some are wondering if this or that gives you a record.

Ask youself if you have ever been fingerprinted? If so you will have one.

i have a couple of alcohol-related misdemeanors that date back more than 10 years ago. anything involving alcohol probably wouldn't affect hiring as public drunkeness is a national sport in korea.

Well, anyone teaching English in Korea is of instantly dubious taste, discernment and character in any case, but no, no convictions here but I have been arrested three times, all of which prior to 2000.
