I have just received a job offer from a school in Seoul, Seongdong-gu. This will be my first overseas teaching experience but I want to make sure that I am signing on with a credible school. Please contact me with any information you might have regarding the following school:

It's a hakwon (institute) so it will blow. Just hope that it blows less than other hakwons. Either way, you'll be a glorified babysitter.

Have you looked into public school jobs? Better vacation time.

also make sure that they give u a contract to review, and post it under the sticky about contracts at the top of this page. people here will help u analyze it.

The public school teachers like to talk about how much better off they are than the teachers in hogwons, but despite what you read on here, many hogwon teachers, including me, are really very happy. When I read of some of the complaints from ps teachers, I wonder why they say they're happy...

Some questions to ask I'll bet you never thought of...
1. Does the director speak fluent English and may I speak to him/her on the phone please? (You want to make sure he/she really can speak English.
2. Does your school hit students?
3. Do you heat your school in the winter? ("If needed," means only if there's standing ice in the classrooms)
4. Do not come without a signed contract and a VISA ALL NICE AND COZY INSIDE YOUR passport.
5. Compare the contract offered to good contract terms...look at ttompatz list of "red flags."

Misery is sitting in a FREEZING classroom, listening to a student being beaten and then having the lovely folks on here tell you beating students black and blue is just a "cultural difference" and stay out of it.
