due to the powerful dichotomy that I use to judge the world and all its affairs, I have no other option but to believe the following:

Castro is anti-american.

Bush is pro-american.

Therefore Castro will do anything Bush doesn't do.

Thus, if Bush cancels the 2008 elections for any reason, Castro will not cling.

but....

If Bush does not cancel the 2008 elections, Castro will cling.

____________

however you must have already have known my response given you are an expert on my world view.

should we guess your view again? or will you shower us with your intelligence?

I remain somewhat sympathetic with Castro and his aims, especially the young, idealistic Castro that Herbert Mathews interviewed in the revolution's very early years.

Unfortunate that Castro still aims to control how history will absolve or not absolve him, however. He cannot change the fact that he has indeed clung to power, for decades; and that he has indeed impeded -- or worse, suppressed -- many potential young Cuban leaders for just as long.

One cannot change such lifelong patterns in one's dying days by press release. He should have held real elections long ago and let the chips fall where they may...

I'm very interested to see what becomes of us-cuban relations when castro is gone.

However I am not well-read on this matter so I can't make any educated predictions myself.

Any predictions?

Words are cheap. I'll wait for him to actually cede power.

`No,' said a great fat man with a monstrous chin,' I don't know much about it, either way. I only know he's dead.'

`When did he die.' inquired another.

`Last night, I believe.'

`Why, what was the matter with him.' asked a third, taking a vast quantity of snuff out of a very large snuff-box. `I thought he'd never die.'

`God knows,' said the first, with a yawn.
