So I got a new passport because mine expires in under 6 months and I'll be going to Japan for the holidays.

I went to immigration today and was first told I need to apply for a new visa, then that I do not need to re-apply and finally that I could get a new visa at immigration at the port of Busan or I could just show my old passport and the ARC card.

This was all said by the same woman.

Can someone clarify? Have you renewed your passport?

I have a multiple entry visa in my old passport. Do I need to go to immigration to do this or can they do it at immi at the port?

My husband and I got new passports 2 weeks ago. We took our new and old passports to the local immigration office. They made a note in their computer system that we had new passport numbers instead of transferring the visa stamp over. We had to point out to the immigration officer that we had multi-entry stamps in our old passports. He then put a new multi-entry stamp in each of our new passports and wrote the old passport number below each stamp. This was all done at no charge and took a very short time to get done.

I hope someone can help me here. Heres my predicament...

I got a E-2 visa issued on dec. 9/2007 and a contract offer from a M.O.E in Gangwondo. I had to show up on the 10th to receive orientation and training that went from the 11th to the 14th. Needless to say, I could not show up on time and before I could leave the M.O.E (through my recruiter's email) said that my visa is canceled and my contract has been rescinded. My recruiter told me that they couldn't represent me anymore as a result and now (still wanting to go to S. Korea to teach) I have to start over with a new recruiter.

Also, I am getting a new passport soon as my older one with the visa stamped in it expires on june 26th 2008.

So my question is (and a shiny new penny to someone who can answer this question for me) can I apply for a new visa with a new passport despite having an unactivated and apparently canceled visa in my old passport?

I had this exact problem when I travelled in the summer. They didn't move my visa to the new passport, but just stamped my card. It all worked out in the end, but it was stressful to have like 5 agents coming over to one counter to check up on me. As if I'd done something wrong.

The lesson to be learned is, when travelling, bring your old and new passport with you.
