Have you ever managed to say anything that didn't include a gross glittering generalization?

that's the money shot. LOL!

I'm gonna have to side with the side I usually don't side on. It is tough to digest the contents of the article when the introduction (title) of OP is not reasonable.

i miss america. it is a shame she is dead. too many generations of politicians/lobbyists/and special interest groups parasitically kiled the old girl. let america's demise be a lesson for democracies yet aboveground.

The President of the United States calls countries "Axis of Evil" and "terrorist states".

Do you disagree that America suspends habeus corpus for citizens of foreign countries? Do you disagree that the CIA tortures "enemy combatants"?

Do you not see America's double standard?

America's government certainly has a double-standard when it comes to human rights for themselves vs. non-Americans.

This point is not in dispute. I challenge any American on this board to argue this.

Your country has become a terrorist state in its' own right, and a blatant violator of international law.

Congratulations.

OK, I'll dispute that. Since the Anti-Terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1995 to the Military Commissions Act of 2006, habeas corpus has been effectively abolished for American citizens as well.

So, see? There is no double standard.

You are asking a leopard (OK, in this case a kitty cat) to change his spots. You don't get subtlety...I was going to say 'from a sledge hammer', but then I decided my sentence had gone far enough to be accurate as it is.

Uh, but you did say it. weird....

The only thing I can say in support of sheer optimism is that her opponent, dead-certain pessimism, has such a bad track record. I prefer equal-opportunity skepticism myself.

Wealthy investors are said to live between the trend-lines, buying when the market is low and selling when the market is high. The truth is that investors see beyond the trend-lines.

The expectations for America have not been lower in years. I'm buying.

Umm....doesn't every country give precedence to their own citizens? America should be more like China, who will imprison and execute dissidents regardless of where they are from.

All of you guys are upset because you want to see America crumble, but know inside that she'll pull through and blow everyones' minds away again. The US just needs more brands and innovations to dope you guys up with for awhile. Even then people will still continue to whine about the envy of the world.

America was founded on race war, built itself on the backs of the weak, and claims the invention of all wothwile modern technology, including perfect government. She will continue, through arms, coercion, and punishment, to control the very essence of your existence in this modern world. Your country is nothing but a puppet on American economic strings. Double standards are nothing compared to the standards that would come about from another terrorist attack. Bow down to your master.

It's always darkest right before the sun winks out forever.

I wish I could go along with your attitude here, but I have been so severely disappointed by the reaction of the American people to 9/11 that I literally feel like a stranger in my own country.

Al Qaeda could never have destroyed America. But fear can, and it's happening as we speak. America is not a country. It's an idea. That idea has proven itself dead, or at least on life support.
