In Tuesday's Korea Times we have this:
Quote:
LG Electonics said Monday that IT has developed a simpler mobile TV system.......... The company said that IN COPERATION with Ericsson, IT (LG) has developed Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS)

Good one LG! Now a simple search on the subject of MBMS, reveals this:
http://www.umts-forum.org/content/view/2177/108/

ZERO mention of LG

Also this,

http://www.ericsson.com/ericsson/press/releases/20070208-1103347.shtml

ZERO mention of the groundbreaking contribution made by LG

and this,

http://networktimes.co.za/news.aspx?pklNewsId=25709&pklCategoryID=198

Once again ZERO mention of Ericsson's partner LG Electronics.

So what contribution did LG actually make?

Did they actually do more than supply the toilet paper used by Ericsson technicians to wipe their butts?

In that case I'm taking the credit for co inventing the internet. My contribution. I used a computer back in the 70's

See page 8.

you just need to search harder.

But i know you just want to make Korea and LG look bad.

Try again...

You yourself haven't made any contributions to anything, so why trumpet others who you have no association with and disparage Koreans.

Ericsson is not the only one, over 10 companies involved and they didn't mention any of them either.

disparage Koreans.

Take a shot at LG and the Korea Times, all of a sudden it's disparaging Koreans.

Don't like Kimchi, it's disparaging Koreans.

Don't drive or like Hyundai cars, it's disparging Koreans.

Anyway thanks for the links. Must be the Naver search engine!

The Korea Times article was your typical piece of Nationalistic jingoism, with LG taking credit/and or the reporter Cho Jin Seo, presenting it as such.
I don't have to disparge Koreans. The media with it's Nationalistic mentality does the job.
To quote Cho Jin Seo
"LG Electronics said Monday that IT has developed...."
A reporter who wasn't such a brainwashed Nationalist, and/or paid off by LG, should have said "A consortium of companies of which LG is a member, has developed....."
I do own an LG washing machine by the way (do you like me now!), however I had to buy it as Korea is a protected market so it was either LG or Samsung, or LG, or Samsung, or LG.

it goes both ways. when I'm in the US i never hear about other countries, except of course the country the US is at war with at that particular time. Nationalistic jingoism is much more rampant in the west. You like scotticus and a few others try to wallpaper this site with your own propoganda, extremist nationalism and hatred for korean men. Anyone with an opposing opinion and your immediately on them like some rabid attack dog.

A country like korea, starting at the beginning of the industrial curve had to promote some protectionist policies to develop its industries. as for electronic products there are a lot of products now from china and europe. No one, certainly no korean, is forcing you to buy korean these days.

Has LG Electronics made this claim? Not once. In the original article, it's plainly stated that LG, in cooperation with Ericsson, made a development.

Apparently the links that were provided by jeff Kim above, are correct.

From the powerpoint link that Jeff Kim provides:

Driving companies: Three, T-Mobile, TIM, Vodafone, Ericsson,
Siemens, Nokia, Nortel, Samsung, Qualcomm, NEC, Alcatel, Lucent,
Panasonic, LG, ...

Now lets go back and look at the article:

Quote:
"LG Electronics said Monday that it has developed a simpler mobile TV system that uses existing cellular networks and does not require additional investment in radio frequency and relay stations.

The company said that in cooperation with Ericsson it has co-developed the Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) and successfully demonstrated it in Sweden, last Friday. The company said the system can be put into use as early as 2009 as a more affordable replacement for existing technology."

One of the patents involved with the MMBS program:

Quote:
Method for managing multicast group in mobile communication system

Eun-Jung Kim, Seoul (Korea, Republic of); and Jin-Young Park,
Gyunggi-Do (Korea, Republic of)

Assigned to LG Electronics Inc., Seoul (Korea, Republic of)

Filed on May 16, 2003, as Appl. No. 10/439,317.
Claims priority of application No. 2002-27640 (KR), filed on May 18, 2002.
Prior Publication US 2004/0029616 A1, Feb. 12, 2004
Int. Cl. H04Q 7/20 (2006.01)

I'm confused as to what the problem is. LG developed this product in cooperation with Ericsson, links have been provided to show that LG had a hand in the development, and the OP is saying that LG is lying? LG works with a LOT of companies in co-developing technology for a LOT of products. Toilet paper? Are you on crack dude? LG is the fourth or fifth largest cell phone maker in the world. Let's give them credit where credit is due. You have no idea what you're talking about. You researched three articles and talked out of your ass. I think you owe those two researchers an apology for talking about them in such a disparaging manner. Of course they'd probably laugh at the teacher, because they make six times what you make.

The OP should change his title to "I jumped to conclusions on this one"

Quote:

Internet pioneers Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn stated in the 2000 article (sent via email) "Al Gore and the Internet," that Gore had been involved with the development of the Internet since the 1970s first as a Congressman and later as Senator and Vice-President. His Gore Bill (High Performance Computing and Communication Act of 1991) was passed on December 9, 1991 and led to the National Information Infrastructure (NII) which Gore referred to as the "information superhighway."

In a March 9, 1999 interview on CNN's Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer, Gore stated, "During my service in the United States Congress I took the initiative in creating the internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system." This was often misquoted by media outlets who wrote that he claimed to have "invented the internet."

In commenting on the interview Cerf and Kahn also argued that, "We don't think, as some people have argued, that Gore intended to claim he 'invented' the Internet. Moreover, there is no question in our minds that while serving as Senator, Gore's initiatives had a significant and beneficial effect on the still-evolving Internet."

~(Wikipedia)

Many people hear what the media has to say in their 30-second sound-bytes and take at it face-value. If one digs a bit deeper, they realize there is often more to it than what the news media often leads us to think.
