In sunny Bangkok. Popular with an international crowd. Sitting at a table and enjoying beers with the owner and the topic turned to how much she loves her Japanese customers. Such nice warm hearted people she said. "How about Koreans?" I asked while pounding yet another beer. The look on her lovely Thai face turned to an angry scowl and her diatribe spewed venom..... Especially funny was how she mocked the Korean men with their shoes off, rubbing their feet on the table.... Korea: Sparkling... the sole of Asia Smile

Amen! I mean, c'mon...you're in Thailand and you are massaging your own feet on a table leg? [/b]

I was recently in Thailand and was hanging out with some longterm expats and their Thai girlfriends. The conversations turned to my life and what I do. I said I lived in Korea. One of the girls (a waitress) said she really doesn't like Korean male customers. The other two girls nodded their heads in agreement. They laughed when I said most foreign guys in Korea don't really like Korean men either. Laughing

But what did the Thai women say about you and the other expat customers?

I think Korean tourists on the whole must commit a lot of social faux pas. The average Korean's understanding of culture and customs in other countries is non existent.

Isn't it wrong to have the bottom of your foot facing a Thai person?

yes, in buddhism the foot is the lowest part of the body spiritually. it is taboo to, for example, give a face massage to a thai monk with your foot

I have never thought of giving a face massage to anyone with my feet.

I must be a Buddhist deep down. Laughing

When I was in Thailand I was talking to some English bar/restaurant/property owners. I mentioned I was living in Korea. One of them said, "Oh! We never do business with Koreans. They just screw ya!"

hmm...

I must confess, I derive pleasure from such stories, having seen and heard of as well in a few other countries distaste for ajosshi.
A few Taiwanese girls, a few Vietnamese, and a few Thai, all had unsmiling opinions of the ajosshi.

I was talking to a Singapore Airline Flight Attendant a while back and we were discussing passengers. She rated Koreans as the worst, even below mainland Chinese passengers. Having lived in China I was surprised by this.
