So recently my computer has been freezing up a lot and making some REALLY wierd straining sounds the like I have NEVER heard before. And my co-worker asked the other day if she could get some 'screen shots' of certain documents I'd emailed her regarding my uni attendance etc. I said she has the photocopies and printouts, why does she need a 'screen shot...?' She made some unintelligable comment and changed the subject...

Anyway, I've been lazy recently and have also been playing online casinos at work (stupid I know) and am now paranoid that they have installed some kind of spyware on my machine or in the network that enables them to view what's on my pc monitor and record it.

Is this possible and how would I know? Also - how can I get around it if it is the case....?

Constructive replies welcomed only.

Cheers

You hit CTRL+ALT+Delete, then click on the Processes tab. You will find a list of programs running on your computer.

Don - Firstly, if your pc at work is making strange sounds and freezing up, the pc may simply be on the road to death.

Monitoring you via software, would surely be quiet and not easily noticeable, especially if it's designed to secretly monitor you.

Perhaps she used the wrong word when she said screenshot, and that's why she made an unintelligible comment and changed the subject.

Alternatively, if you are right, just stop going to online casinos while at work.

If they confront you about the casinos, just say you realized it wasn't appropriate to continue with it, and that's why you stopped.

You could also offer whatever form of apology you think would get you out of the situation.

There are certain things I wouldn't visit at work, including online casinos.

i recently found out that my PS can see everything i've been doing, which basically amounts to facebook, dave's, blackboard for my course, and some misc sites.
i told one of my co-teachers about the eSnips page for teaching resources, and after she went on it, it was promptly blocked. they've also blocked youtube on classroom computers, but not mine.

anyways, my point is i don't think they give a damn what the FTs access at work (as long as it isn't something along the lines of porn), but if KTs go to the same sites or it shows up under a random classroom computer, they block it

Sounds like your HD is thrashing.

Have you defragged lately?

Also you should have a good Anti-Virus.

Try AVG it's free.

Have you tried the Tech forum?

One other thing....my pc at home back in England used to make weird loud sounds, I eventually found out a fan inside the computer had snapped and that was the reason for loud, moaning-type sounds (moaning in the sense of 'I'm in pain and don't want you to use me').

I know what she meant by screenshot. You shouldn't sweat it at all. It means pressing the print screen (PRT SC) button on your keyboard then pasting the image on a image viewer. Basically, it takes a shot of whatever is on your screen at the time.

I think if they caught you with the online gambling, they would have said something already. You're good - you shouldn't sweat it.

Cheers guys. Yup, it's probably nothing and no sites have been blocked which would be the obvious course to take if they thought I was spending too much time online. I will stop the online casinos though...

My province blocks my fun sites. Things like worldofwarcraft.com and play-asia.com...hopefully they don't get pissy about me using a proxy to get into em!
