For the past two months i have been hitting all the ad boards for working in Korea. Ive sent so many resumes that it is becoming hard to manage them all. My problem is that when I ask for clarification on vague points on contracts i never hear from the people again. I find this a bit unprofessional to say the least. Im not asking for any major contractual changes. I just want clarifications on very vague or nonexistent contract terms.

My most common questions are:
Hours of employment
If i will be working at other places besides the one Im hired for.
What is considered OT and pay rate for OT.
What does housing come with and where it is in relation to work place.
Holidays and vacation
Can i speak with current foreign teacher.

Really I am I asking too much or what? Like six times now it has happened when i asked these basic questions that i get no more replies to my emails.

Are you dealing with recruiters or the schools themselves? If they're recruiters you're talking to, then this is no surprise, as they probably don't know the answers to the questions themselves and if they do, don't give a darn about answering you...you're just another notch in their belt.

If they're all schools, then you may have run into some shady places, or at least some exceptionally disorganized ones (not that that would be hard to find in Korea...just throw a rock). Anyway you'd probably want to steer clear of them anyway.

Just keep looking, there are decent places out there that'll answer your questions and get you a good gig.

I've found this too, as well as getting up at 6am for arranged interviews and the school don't phone. Also getting told I'd receive feedback from an interview the next day then it ends up being a week or two later because the teacher was away on a business trip. I didn't realise Korean teachers had the habit of going on business trips. These have all been jobs through recruiters, I've hardly seen any ads where the school have been advertising directly. I don't think you've been too demanding, you've got every right to know all the basic specifics before you start a job, especially one where you have to fly half way round the world to get to it.

These are excellent questions.

Those are good questions and you should be asking them. However, you should know that typically Koreans don't ask questions at a job interview. They sometimes leave the interview not even knowing what the salary will be. Shocked

It could be you are coming across as too aggressive. Consider asking only one or two questions at a time. When you get one answered, go on to the next one.

"Am I to demanding"

I thought this was sentence by one of your students and you were requesting help on how to correct them.

That's not asking too much. Depends how you handle it though. If you ask these questions from the start (prospective letters) they will think it's too much hassle to deal with and reject it. They have hundreds of other applications coming in and most recruiters have bad English skills or are downright lazy.

I applied for pt work on a job board recently, my ad clearly spelled out that I want pt eve work only and I live in Ilsan. Two weeks later, I'm still getting full time job offers from Pusan to Gangnam....

What you need to do is once you've been replied to after applying for a position, then when you have the phone interview, get these questions out of the way. Get your foot in the door first. Good luck.

It just not the crunch time yet. Wait until February and you can get what you want.

Yes. And I know from personal experience you do not, CB. You spelled grammar right though. Impressive! I guess those years in the military were worth something. They got you a job here teaching English, didnt they? Too bad it taught you how not to think for yourself as seen on these boards. Or are you just pimping us, CB? Come on, that has got to be the case. No one can be as stupid as JMO though.

Hey regicide---do you think you can increase the size of your avatar image?

It's actually possible to read some of the comments to the right and that always gives me a headache.

I will consider it. But do you have your's real small in compensation? It gives me a headache especially since I hate hockey and all I have in my memory are a bunch of morons on the hockey team back in college who wanted to beat up everbody.
