I have a teacher in Jeonju that has a disability. The school has decided not to work with her because of it. Evil or Very Mad Even though they knew up front that she had it.

So now, she is in Jeonju, with her E2 visa and I am trying to line jobs up for her. Is it even worth trying to find her a job or will she have to fly home to renew her visa?

If she has the blessing of her old employer AND a new one, she will be able to add the new place of employment then cancel the old one (effectively transfering her visa) without the need for a new visa or a visa run.

I just talked with one of the prospective schools and they said that immigration has requested that she start the whole process again.

Do you have any links to the immigration site to back up what you are saying?

Smile

If she goes to work for a public school she might be able to transfer her visa over to them without leaving.

http://www.immigration.go.kr/indeximmeng.html

you can't link to a page within the site, so follow these steps:

at the top link bar (in the clouds) mouse over Visa's and immigration.

A purple link box will open, click on "Staying in Korea"

A new window will open, look at the list of links on the left hand side of your screen. Click on "Changing or adding Company of Employment"

At the top of the new page, there will be a blue box that reads:
Procedure of Permission for Changing or Adding Place of Employment & Methods status of stay (13)

Click on "status of stay (13)

On the new page that opens, there will be a list of different visa types, click on the one that applies to your case. It will tell you what you need. If necessary, print a copy to show others.

When immi tells you something different, there's a steamrolling that's about to go down. At that point, you have to 1) get semi aggressive & point out rules 2)ask a different immi officer 3) wait until a happier day & try again.

What's meant by reference (in case of changing work place)?

I'm going through the process myself right now...

it is a letter of reference from your current employer.... a bit more than just a release letter.

I had to give a release letter and a seperate reference letter.

Not as far as I know....

A friend of mine actually did the mythical switch schools & no visa run .... back in winter of 2006 and she had to do the same.

It couldnt hurt to ask for a letter, especially since they are letting your friend go early...

Ok, it looks like we are turning the corner here. I think I have found her a sweet job in Bundang.

Now to go over the e2 requirements

Passport and foreign registration card
Application forms for changing/adding the place of employment
An explanation letter (in case of closing of lecture or closing of office, document to conform that) Ok, what does this mean?
An Employment contract
A copy of school establishment & operation registration and business registration
A letter of consent from former workplace Does anyone have an example?
Reference (in case of change of working place)
Fees (tax stamp 60,000 won)

Thanks so much for all the help!

An explanation letter (in case of closing of lecture or closing of office, document to conform that) Ok, what does this mean? This is a document from the employer saying that they are closing the ofice/branch the teacher works out or going out of business completely. If the school your friend is working at isn't doing either of these things then you don't need to worry about it.
An Employment contract
A copy of school establishment & operation registration and business registration
A letter of consent from former workplace Does anyone have an example? This should be a new name or a Letter of release, there are various samples both here on Dave's and at Efl-law.com. If I'm wrong in the assumption then someone please feel free to correct me.
Reference (in case of change of working place)
Fees (tax stamp 60,000 won)

Thanks so much for all the help!

Well, I'm getting a letter of release and a reference letter as well. Now, if I can just find a job soon, it would be such a blessing. Smile
