There's a service that will get your documents with all the proper seals (especially helpful & cost saving compared to a trip home) no matter how many states you need it from (went to college in state that's not your home state)~ this service runs $700 per document. So for the CBC & my diploma/transcripts that's 1400$ still cheaper than the RT air + yada yada..

DO WE GET TO KEEP THESE VERY EXPENSIVE DOCUMENTS??

Anyone dealing with this?

I know we have to get the CBC done again & again ad nausuem, but would like to save by keeping the transcripts with apostilla attached.

even if you did keep them (which i doubt), what's to prevent them from asking for a more recent CRC when you apply for the next job?

In the GEPIK contract for 2008 it states that you only get your original degree back.

When I went and did the misuss's visa in Suwon I asked for my notarized translation back purely because it cost so much. They put a photocopy in for me instead.

Yes CdninKorea, you're correct~! MrsSquirrel~ do you mean they put a photocopy of the paper in the file or in your hand?

But to be fair, we have to give these super expensive documents to employers & they pass them on to immigration & one day we get it back (maybe). If the mythical database they've been touting for YEARS actually happens (not holding breath) then I wouldn't care...

Kwhitehead~ I know that the CRC/CBC will have to be done again & again, but my transcripts are complete & unchanging. I seriously don't see my self going the Pompous hypercritical Dementia sufferer's route (suffering being borne by collegues)~ so transcripts good to go!

The put a photocopy of my notarized copy of my translated marriage certificate on file.

Cost 100quid to get it done in total so I was thankful of that.

WOAH!
that's a lot of cash for a simple document.
I don't understand why you have to pay so much for a damn visa, when the whole reason you are even picking up and going to another country is to MAKE money.
It almost makes you not even wanna go anymore, is it even worth all this hassle?

EXACTLY Jamez~!

Sure, doing it myself would "save" me hundreds in apostille fees, but then add on the 1.4 RT to east coast USA, holiday rates for hotels in my state capital & Consulate regional capital (for the faster return) or couch surf with everyone I know from college while I try to do all this by post, taking 4-6 weeks.

So either way... your looking at time & cost. Unless you are one of the lucky few who have reliable family/friends who will focus on keeping track of the papertrail for you... maybe in exchange for some special order kimchee ^-^

whether you pay up front for the service or you go home & do it yourself the paper result becomes exponentially more valuable than in its original form. hence... I want mine back.

My sister lives in Japan, my brother in Germany and my mother recently passed away from a stroke. So no, I dont have any family in the USA right now.

reliable friends... well... since I've not lived in the USA for nearly 4 years... the ties that bind become a bit loose over time.

how many friends do you have that would drive 7 hours across the state to deliver docs to the State Reg. then to the nearest area consulate?

And if you're a US citizen, that FBI check can only be sent to *YOUR* mailing address. And if you live in NC, AZ, or TX that state check can only be released to your employer, who must be a registered business.

So, in dealing with a situation where the paper work has to be done correctly, in a timely fashion and most likely with endless questions to verify this is the correct procedure, no I dont have anyone who would willing do this without my emotional manipulations of our friendship. Most of my friends are more worried about the credit crunch, trying not to lose their homes, manage to pay gas & afford a little sliver of christmas cheer for their own kids.

Frankly I dont like your insinuation kwhitehead, it's rude and inconsiderate.
