I'm looking at getting into the EPIK program, and it says 10 days vacation. Is this for real?

If so, what do you do happens the rest of the year when the students are on vacation?

Are there camps I would have to work or something?

Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

Any other points I should consider on EPIK? Any way of getting out of the 10 day unpaid orientation?

Aren't the current contracts at EPIK giving 14 WORKING days?

They used to be 10 working days (2 calendar weeks).

The rest of the time you are supposed to be doing prep, camps, and personal-professional development.

They are paying you to be at your desk and if you signed the contract, you agreed to it.

Thanks for the reply.

I actually don't know a heck of a lot about EPIK. I've heard some people get lots of vacation, others don't.

The big question I have is, when school is out in the winter and the summer, and the Korean teachers are on holiday, what do the EPIK teachers do?

If they are doing camps, do they get paid extra for it?

It just seems unreal that teachers in EPIK would be only taking a week off in the summer, and a week off in the winter.

ANYONE who is in EPIK please feel free to chime in, I'm really needing to find out about this. THANKS!

Fourteen work days is the least number of holidays for EPIC positions I've seen (so far). The most is thirty-five.

When you say you are looking into EPIC positions and 'it' says 10 days vacation, what, exactly is "it"?

most PS positions, EPIK or other, give 14 working days vacation.

if u are in a rural location, u usually get more vac days.
during the school vacation period, u will probably do 2 or 3 weeks of camp or some other class. on the days u don't teach, u are still expected to come in anyway and sit around in the school. bring a book

Some places with EPIK have 5 week vacations. There is 3 weeks in winter and 2 weeks in summer.

Is it more up to the principal, or the EPIK office?

I've read repeatedly that Korean law mandates a minimum of 15 working days for 2008...can't swear it's true, but I believe it to be.

I just found out that I will have 2 weeks off before I start 4 weeks of winter camps. After I'm finished with my winter camps I will start my 4 weeks vacation.
