ANNOUNCING:

The Simulated Iowa Caucus right here on Daves.
(I thought about calling it a Mock Iowa Caucus, but just knew that was asking for trouble.)

WHERE:
As Iowa is first in the nation to begin the process of nominating a president, we will be First-in-the-World. The caucus will be held right here in Turkey Scratch, the only precinct in Iowas 100th county, spanning the globe.

WHO can take part? ONLY voters who have registered as Daves Democrats. Previous party affiliation will NOT be a detriment to participation in this exercise in our down-home democracy. We are a majorly big tent party. If you can grit your teeth and register as a Daves Democrat, we can welcome anyone, even if we have to grit our teeth to do it. The Great and Sovereign State of Iowa, and more importantly, the Precinct of Turkey Scratch can extend honorary citizenship to you for the duration. Even if you have never wanted to be an American you CAN be an IOWAN--Impress your family and amaze your friends!

HOW do you register? Simply by declaring your intent to take part. Post a message below before midnight December 24, Korea time.

Details are still being worked out by the management. Sign up and stay tuned.

Everything will be finished before the real caucus takes place January 3.

Basic instructions: At the meeting you will be asked to go to different rooms. If enough supporters join that room, your candidate will get a delegate. You can support anyone who is constitutionally qualified to be president, but if your candidate doesnt have enough support, you will have the opportunity to move to your 2nd choice. You can refuse, but that will mean you lose any chance of influencing the outcome.

The Republican system is different and I dont understand what they do. Besides, if there is a God, the GOP doesnt have a chance of winning in November, so we will stay as close to the Democratic Party as we can, given were not in Mrs. Ross living room on Jan. 3.

Welcome.

You don't need to declare yet.

We need a count of the number of participants in order to determine the % needed for a candidate to be viable.

All anyone needs to say at this point is 'I'm in.'.

PS: Being able to say you are an honorary Iowan carries far more cachet with the ladies than saying, "I'm a Michi-gander'." So I'm told. Wink

I just say I'm from New York or San Francisco.

They LOVE that! Cool

Iowa chose John Kerry 4 years ago.

Thanks Iowa!

You've had your turn choosing.

Sit down and let another state have campaigns blow all their money and attention on them.

Thanks, Iowa!

Hey....

Iowa.

IOWA!

HEY IOWA!

Sit.

Sit down.

Iowa, won't you please sit down?

Yes, we know you're very fair. But Iowa, this is a REPUBLIC.

It's not the Republic of Iowa.

I want farmers in my state to sit down at 6am and have an honest discussion about who should be president.

LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC!

I never appreciated Iowa until I lived in Nebraska.

Yeah, that was a very lousy choice.

He was an establishment man as well, fully entrenched in party politics. Looks like Iowa is going to go with Hiliary.

Now that I think about the Northern Midwest (Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, etc.), I remember how much more support there are for all things women-related, and Hiliary probably will get the nomination in addition to her party-entrenched political positions on issues.

I'd be surprised if Iowa doesn't support her in 11 days.

I really hope not. We'll see. Clinton is only a small shift away from Bush, and she is unlikely to cede the power the Bushies have built up in the hands of the White House.

Sunday Morning, Dec. 23

So far, registered voters are:

1. Tiger Beer
2. stillnotking (Welcome. Monarchical tendency noted.)
3. Kuros
4. bacasper
5. Czarjorge
6. Me
7. Gopher
8. Rteacher

Not sure if Nowhere Man's anti-Iowa rant counts as a registration or not. It certainly disqualifies him for the free barn and silo key ring and matching seed corn hat other attendees will receive.

Edited to include the newest members.

We all have our price, don't we? Wink

I'll put you down in the Dave's Democrats Very Very Conservative Wing column. That's the best we can do since a caucus is a members-only thing.

If anyone knows how to post pictures, a pic of the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota would not be amiss on this thread.

To quote from the website:

"Wheat, rye and sorghum have their boosters, but it's corn that fattens our hogs, sweetens our muffins and puts the starch in our shirt collars.

The needle of the corn compass points to Mitchell, a prairie town that is corn crazy and proud of it. Mitchell's high school sports teams are the Kernels. Its local radio station's call letters are KORN. And it's home to the "agricultural showplace of the world," the Mitchell Corn Palace."
