I'm contracted for 25, 40 minute classes a week, scheduled for 24 but I only do about 21. (I have middle school on Friday but there's only a few students and they rarely show up). I average 4 classes per day somtimes 5.

Hah, even the good hakwons work you like a dog. I've got a schedule much like shawner's, and I'm being slave-driven right now.

I teach 4-6 classes per day, and I'm on a 30-minute schedule with those. It comes out to 26 classes a week. I also teach an after-school class for overtime pay 3 times a week, which lasts about an hour. 29 classes.

It all depends - I'm contracted for 25 but the classes often get cancelled and the director doesn't tell me. Cue the common scenario that I turn up for work, go to classes and there's noone there. I then go to the director and ask him only top be told "ah yes, no class". Evil or Very Mad

On Monday I could've turned up at 8pm, not 3 as I did!!! Evil or Very Mad Mad Crying or Very sad

I my hawgwon days I used to do 8-10 M-W-F and like 5-7 on T-T and no Sat classes. Most of it was insane amounts of overtime. Like 4yrs ago for about 3 months straight me and a few other guys were making pretty large OT.

I teach 30 different classes which vary in length (20-45min) and frequency (1-3times a week).

So my timetable is all over the place.

MWF I'm on site 11-7.15
TT I'm there at 10.20 and finish at 7.30pm

On Mondays, I teach seven 40-minute classes.
On Tuesdays, I teach six 45-minute classes.
On Wednesdays and Fridays, I teach seven 40-minute classes plus one 60-minute class.
On Thursdays, I teach six 45-minute classes and one 60-minute class.

This doesn't include prep time for the classes which is usually about 2 hours a day. In all fairness, I do have the heaviest schedule in my hakwon at the moment and the mornings are filled with kindy classes (but those are the classes I like).

Wow! That really sucks! How can you do it? I feel worn out teaching 4-5 classes from 3-8pm, although my previous school was much worse.

Shawner, I teach from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with 2 20-minute breaks before a 50-minute break and another 40 minute class. It sucks!

I just keep going... try not to think about it. (Well, that, and drink plenty of Diet Coke for the caffeine. LOL)

4 classes averaging 27.5 minutes apiece, then 3 55-minute classes, and it's all back-to-back. In other words, I teach 5 hours straight from 2:30-7:30 every day, and I'm done, plus I have to come in an hour early for prep. Not a bad situation, really. My only complaint about this schedule is that the 55-minute classes are a bit long for the kids' attention span.

Thanks for the interesting question. I too have wondered a lot about what the "norm" was.
I teach a total of 28 50 minute classes a week, although I'm contracted for 30. My old schedule was back to back classes of five or six a day, my new schedule has me working on and off from 11 am to 9pm. It's starting to wear on me.
Summer camp was even more intense and ranged from 10 am to 9pm. Never did get the OT pay, so cut a deal for extra vacation time.
I wonder if it makes a difference where you live too. I wonder if the conditions are better in the big cities.
