Here's a few things I've learned, while on Christmas holiday in Canada.

1. In Calgary I was able to go the Calgary Police Administration Building and was able to get a full police check done in 1 hour, including the vulnerable sector search for 30$.

2. The Korean Consulates in Canada have updated websites, but they are contradicting each other as well. Montreal says you must have a notory public notorize it first, however Vancouver says that if the police check is sent directly to them this is not necessary. They are just trying to put pieces together is what the lady in Vancouver told me. I haven't checked Toronto's website yet.

*** This notorization makes no sense anyway. Get a lawyer who doesn't know you to sign it to say it's official. I don't think there is a market for fake criminal background checks either. I wouldn't even know how to do get a fake one done even after seeing the actual document. Faking a degree would be 100X easier.***

3. So the police have sent them my criminal check and I have sent a money order ($2.20 - can you believe it) and a passport copy to them by expresspost which cost 15$ return. Now just waiting for it to be returned to see if it actually works out. If not I have two copies myself of the criminal check that I can bring to Korea or to a notary public. Just a big hassle really. But trying to cover my ass here before coming back.

4. Interview times for 1st timers are official now - they have specific days and times for them. They have NOT been scrapped as some have said on here.

5. Consulates know nothing of this March 15th extension I've heard on here. Seems a rumour that maybe one person heard from one officer who was probably annoyed in order to make him go away. If this was fact where is the official notice. This would save a lot of people a lot of grief who have contract until May.

6. I find it odd that some think that if you change from a hagwon to a public school you would be exempt from a criminal check. As far as I know foreign public school teachers all have had to do criminal checks first before going to a public school.

Thanks for the post CP. I'm awaiting my CRC right now, and was going to call the consulate this week to go over everything before I drive to Toronto see them and find out I've screwed something up.

So, CRC and a copy of the degree need to be notarized.... and apparently sealed transcripts too? Is there anything else? I'd like to get them all notarized at once.

CP - I am just wondering if you got everything sorted out. I am having a lot of trouble with my criminal record check (see here for the whole story http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=109779) and am wondering how you did it.
