The annual salary will be :
[drum roll please]
- 21,000,000 won for MA holders
Who the fack are they trying to kid? Is this a typo? If I got my M.A. on Kaosan Road, this would still be an insult.
But wait, it gets even better:
18,000,000 won for BA holders.
At least they offer you more money for your M.A.
That works out to 1.5 million a month. These people should be ashamed of themselves. I feel stupider just for having read that job ad. Bah. |

Some bloke will take the job just to get away from being a glorified babysitter. At least with this job they'll be able to chill in their office longer & not spend all that extra cash on booze trying to de-stress themselves.

It's not such a bad base gig, especially if you're an F2...you could easily supplement that with privates or even do a few evening hours at a haggie...
People here sometimes expect a ton of pay for not much work. |

1.5 million/mnth + plus housing + paid summer and winter vacations for only 12 class hrs a week during spring and fall semesters? Teaching tourism english to college girls?
That's actually quite cushy. I can't believe people complain about gigs like that. |

Actually, my university hired four people recently on similar terms and there are at least 2 others currently as well. I'd bet all hagwon or F series folks.
The strategy is to hire at a lower pay/fewer hours and then require 50% more hours on overtime at 6,000 an hour. Then they'll announce the mandatory camp after you arrive.... |

Yeah that's what I basically assumed. 6000 an hour OT rate is a joke, anyone thinking that the school won't bend you over and take you for all you're worth at that rate is a fool. |

Ok, before we start painting a random university with a potentially unwarranted brush (whoops...too late), lets look at what they have posted for an ad:

Someone please point out where 6000won/hr overtime is mentioned or even implied. Hell, they don't even mention if overtime is mandatory or is just stated in the job overview.
You guys are needling a basic job overview as if it were a binding contract. Give it a rest.
Based on a read-thru of the job ad, the only advice that I'd offer is for applicants to ask to see the contract (obviously) to better understand the detail and scope of the job requirements, ensure that the overtime clause meets labor law standards, inquire about vacation length, and most importantly, talk to the current teachers and/or teacher whom you are being expected to replace to gain feedback on how the job plays out in reality. |

But you forgot 'hope like the pope on dope that what you hear is what you get'...
Binding contract, that's a good one... |

I know the school, I know folks that work there...its one of the cushiest gigs going for Daegu. For those of you who say its not good, what are you doing now that this gig is not good? Welfare?
Oh and by the way, there are no camps with this school...at all! |

Most of the decent university gigs I know of start around 2.2 to 2.5 million/month with housing of some kind at 12 hours a week (if not more).
A 1 million won/month difference is pretty big.
That's why I think this job sucks.
If that's one of the cushiest jobs in Daegu, then the job choices in Daegu aren't too hot. |

There might be a COUPLE like that in all of Korea, but then, I doubt many here would be qualified to teach those positions. More likely, for that money you are working 18-20+ hours, PLUS camp, and any other extra classes/prep they want you for.
You can choose: Work more hours, make more money, or work less hours, make less money. And this job gives you TONS of free time without ANY office/board politics whatsoever.
I also know people who work here, and I have a similar job. They are never bothered by higher-ups, they don't have to have office hours, they can do what they want with the ciriculum, the vacation is PAID, they get severance and trip bonuses, and they also get a lot longer break (4-5 months a year, again, should mention, PAID) than most uni jobs I see EVER posted. This allows them to fill in the free time with anything they want: more work, hobbies, or whatnot. |

4 months paid vacation ain't so appealing when you're only making 1.5 for it...really eats into savings potential.
If someone is on an F visa or whatever, then yeah the work hours are low enough I suppose. |
